I'm interested in the reponses as well... but let me expand the question: Does octane booster work? Does it actually raise the octane? How does it work?

Was pretty thoroughly tested by one of the car magazines a while back and determined to be a waste of money.

It's been discussed here as harmful as well...

None, waste of money... You can buy alot of 100 octane vs replacing a 993TT engine..

Your betting that a $10 can will save your engine... Why $10 if it worked??? Everyone would be buying the cheapest grade of fuel and slapping in a $10 in a can.. Pretty good return on the dollar or tank of fuel.. When you see that 100 cost $7.00 a gallon..

Put another way, Russian roulette with a can, vs a $25K engine rebuild..

Now on the other hand, I thought someone here was talking about adding toluene to crappy gas to make good gas...

Toluene can be used to blend lower octane fuel, or to raise the 100 octane fuel value... However the mixture ratio's are in the gallon quanties per tank vs cans.. My recent purchase was at $5.50 per gallon at Sherwin Williams..

i only run 100 octane Sunoco at the track. I only drive the car at the track. I see the car holding booste better and no knock sensor hits on the ECU .

I was under the impression that when an octain booster says it will raise your octain level by two points it doesn't mean from 98 to 100, it actually means from 98 to 98.2, therefore it's a waste of money in my book.

Talked to ***** at FVD the other day and asked him about mixing 50% 91 and 100 octane. His response was that that if you mix 91 octane with 100 octane, you end up with whatever the lower octane is and in this case it's 91. Now this is contrary to what I thought which is if you mix 91 and 100 you end up with 95.5 octane. Which is correct?

that makes no sense.

That's not true.. You will raise the octane number.. But I don't know if it's a 50/50 split..

I've been asking local gas stations if they have two tanks or three. They have two tanks: 87 and 91. The 89 is simply a blend of the other two. So blending seems to be the accepted practice, despite what FVD said. I think it is safe to blend 91 and 100 and try get get 95 or 96 or so. Now Scott, on the other hand, needs 115 octane for his hot rod. That's a whole different ball game.
