Superfly,

Can you look at the Gemballa web site and then tell me which wheels you have? Do you know the sizes and offsets (were they on a widebody)? You can email to me directly at DOHC4v@aol.com.

Thanks

Steve - I personally like the Kinesis K58R, but among the choices you listed I would go with the Kinesis K28R. You should also be able to fit 11.5" and perhaps 12" in the rear unless understeer is already a problem for you. You should also be able to fit an 9" wide rim in the front to diminish any added understeer.

Also, if you deal directly with Kinesis (they're in north San Diego county), they will give you a PCA discount...I forgot if it was 10 or 15% discount. I'm not suree if in the end it will be cheaper than the prices you posted, but you'd get to deal directly with the manufacturer and work with him on the offsets.

Sean, the 996TT rears will not fit a narrow body 996 or 993 as the offset is wrong.

Steve, I can make you a really good offer on my 996TT wheels/tires if you are interested. They are fully polished. If you are interested, maybe we can meet someplace and you can take a look.

Steve: I think you are spot on with 8.5 and 10.5 sizes. With my 11 inchers, even with a 295 P-Zero, the rim sticks out a bit from the tire. The next size tire available is usually a 315 (for a street tire). To maintain handling balance you'd probably need to go to a 255 on the front. I have no idea if those sizes would fit without fender rolling.

The reason I'm inclined to go with 10.5 and 8.5 is that I have the option of using the stock 285/225 sizes, or to step up to a more aggressive 295/235 or 295/245. Remember, however, this is just for looks. My track days are over. Really. Really. I mean it this time.

So, a new question: how will the viscous AWD cope with these variations in tire rolling diameters? What if I use a 295/225 combo for a while? Is this the same as the factory sizes on the 996TT? Is their AWD the same as ours? Will I wear something out faster, or make the AWD less (more) effective? Enquiring minds want to know this stuff.

Thanks for all the help so far.

Scott... how do you like my new avatar?

Long story short, the rears are slightly smaller in rolling diameter vs the front so that the viscous coupling automatically engages the front wheels at some minimum level.

Steve: Yes I do like the avatar.
On second thoughts, why don't you get 8.5s and 11s and then try that 315/255 combo out and then let me know if it fits

VOLK RACING!! Awesome wheels, light, not expensive, and stronger than anything!

HRE- Stunning Looks, super strong, fairly light, did I say Stunning looks?? A bit pricey, but well worth it.

WORK- Work Wheels(Japan) makes nice forged wheels (mesh BBS style), strong wheels, are available in gold, and not super expensive. I think www.fvdusa.com sells them.

iForged blows goats!

GFG (Giovanna) even worse than iForged...

Hope this helps!

Also forgot:

Cargraphic Racing Wheels- They look awesome in both 18 and 19 on 993tt. They are forged BTW.

Step lip for 18"
Reverse drop lip for 19"

Steve,

This is on the 996TT board right now. Kinesis K58Rs available. These will fit our cars.

Bob,

Thanks for the heads-up. Those wheels look great, but I just ordered the perfect wheels from Wheel Enhancements: Kinesis K28 with gold painted centers. I hated to spend that much money, but I figure that my kids don't really need college anyway. You are my inspiration. Gotta see your car next time I'm visiting my Santa Cruz family.

the take offs are not for my 996 but are for my dad's 993tt. Just for shts and giggles I tried to fit up the rears and as everyone says the offset is of course incorrect and I would need curb feelers and a fuzzy dash to roll them

talking about wheels,

i'm thinking about the following 2 choices for my T.T, Let me have your thoughts

Cargraphic 19" Racing wheels
http://www.cargraphic.de/en/felgen/framesns.html
8.5/19 with 235 or 245 for the front
11/19 with 305 or 315 in the rear

or

Artec MK model
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEBWA%3AIT

in sizes as described

What do you guys think

That cargraphics wheel looks pretty serious
