Post Too good to be true Turbo S on Dupont

<a href="http://www.dupontregistry.com/search/srDetails.asp?itemid=102200" target="_blank">http://www.dupontregistry.com/search/srDetails.asp?itemid=102200</a>

Aside from some questions about the descriptions and an overall question of why someone would sell a Turbo S below fair market value, this is just a very nice looking example.

Pretty simple, I think.
The car is not a Turbo S - not even a Turbo but a C2 according to a VIN tool I found. I don't know if the tool is right, but it makes far more sense than a Turbo S at that price. Note that nowhere in their ad do they ever claim the car is a Turbo.

I do not see anywhere that the seller is claiming the car is a Turbo. Perhaps someone has a definitive VIN decoder and can tell.

According to THE source (Viken) the VIN indicates it is a Turbo and there is no way to tell if it is really an S, except there would be an Exclusive option. So much for the tool I found. If it has been converted, then the price makes sense (high IMO). If a real S, I would bet there is quite a story to the car.

I checked the VIN with the VIN decoder found on p-car.com It corresponds to a 97 turbo. This just may be a turbo S. The body, brakes, exhaust pipes, and interior look pretty authentic. Maybe the seller is really clueless. They think it's a 996.

From the low quality pics that I can see, it appears to have all the turbo S goodies ( polished wheels, yellow calipers, rear air ducts, front air ducts, wing, leather wrapped controls, carbon fiber interior, etc )

But it's have to tell for sure though.. All those could have been put on aftermarket.

Am I wrong but wasn't the Turbo S a 1998 car? I have little doubt the owner went to great lengths to upgrade the car but the add says it is a 1997 (the VIN is also a 1997 number). It also says 996! The sceptical side of me says it is the wrong picture file with the add as the descriptions don't match. Call to verify, then call me to tell me it is the correct add and price, then I'll pick you up and take you for a ride in my new Turbo S....

If all else fails, call the dealer. I spoke to April personally and she said they have a regular turbo, not a "S". She said they had a "S" but it sold. Dupont Registry or April must have made a mistake. The pictures don't match the car.

If it sounds to good to be true....it usually is.

She is taking care of the correction.

She did say they had a Red "S" with 9200 miles if anyone is interested.

By the way, Porsche made a 1998 Turbo S in Europe but not for the USA market.

I am new the the Forum but these seems to be a low price for a Turbo S with 18 k miles. Maybe we should put a service "PIA/ Porsche Intelligent Agency" and charge on investigations...

Regards to all
