Default Seat issues (lumbar support problems)

Hi all...

Just picked up my new baby (993 Turbo S-spec, Arctic Silver/CanCan Red), and had a very enjoyable 5-hour drive across the UK to bring her to her new home. Amazing car. I promise I'll post pics later...

Just one thing though - no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't find a comfortable seating position in the standard seats. The chief culprit seems to be the lumbar support - it is never completely off, and is never in a comfortable position. To the extent that after a few hours, i was in complete agony. Three hours after getting out of the car, my back is still incredibly sore.

Anyone have similar problems with the 993's seats? Any tips on getting comfy?

Thanks in advance...

if you have the supple leather like i HAD the seats suck for lumbar support. you need to get a cheap foam lumbar add on from an auto shop if you plan on driving the car a lot

i switched to leather recaro topline seats. they are great in that they look oem, are sporty, hold you better and have variable lumber ,heat and vent.

i cant say enough good things. i agree the normal seats are awful.

thanks rob... do you have a link to the seats? I'd have to get them re-trimmed in Can Can (have a good trimmers for that), but I'd definitely be interested... my back's still in serious pain...

when i picked up my 97 from PO the lumbar support switch gave me trouble...it would allow the lumbar to inflate but was not allowing it to deflate. with the support inflated almost to full i found the seat very uncomfortable. after taking out the switches on the side of the seat and playing with the wires i found that it was the connection and was able to rectify it with a little work. btw, it will be easier to remove the switches if you first cut a few cable ties under the seat to allow the harness more slack

I'm no mechanic, and I think I'd be terrified to go cutting wires... will try and go to a dealership to find out if that's the problem... cheers...

see this thread with pics of my interior. also, do a search for 'recaro topline' on all the boards and others have pics of the seats installed.

Wow they look great!

Update: I went to the dealer today and found out that there's a buggered motor in the seat.. the lumbar support's all over the shop... thought it was impossible that any seats could be THIS uncomfortable...

Thanks!
