Default Bypass and Cat

Has anyone here installed a muffler bypass and a 100 cell cat on a 993tt?

I did. I had previously been running Fabspeed mufflers bypasses with OE cats, and liked it. With the stock cats I was still able to drive the car to work (where I park in an underground parking garage) without feeling obnoxious.

After new turbos and 100 cell cats, it was too loud. It sounded great--throaty and aggressive--and I really wanted to retain the muffler bypasses because of the weight and flow advantages, but it was just too much.

If I had not reinstalled mufflers (RSRs in my case), I suspect I would have driven the car less out of sensitivity to the noise it makes. So at least now I can enjoy the car whenever I like. And with RSRs there is still quite a bit of good, throaty exhaust note, if not any weight savings.

I have muff bypass with 100cell cats. Maybe Kevin can post the sound clip I made for him. Microphone at 5feet, 10feet, etc., Also have some footage of some "fly-by's".

I had 100 cell cats and by pas pipes on my 96 993tt and i couldnt drive through a parking lot without seting off every alarm at times i was a little embarrassed to drive it around. I installed phoenix mufflers and the car still is loud and throaty but not nearly as abnoxious as the by pass pipes, i think it sounds much better now. Depending on how you use your car if you drive it daily or weekly in the city i recommend mufflers witn the 100 cell cats especially if you have other mods done to it. With the bypass pipes when the car fires up you ll be thinking to yourself oh god not again.

All the best

Rufus has Ruf 100 cell cats and Fabspeed bypasses. With the Ruf cams, the car sounds GREAT. I get many compliments on the way it sounds, and no one has ever said its too loud. I love it.
