Found a good car but the carfax showed 3 emmissions failures in the last 3 years. Is this a red flag? Otherwise the car looks great.

What does the seller say about those emission failures?
Sometimes a failed emission test is simply because the "readiness codes" were set... this could be because the battery was disconnected. For now, be sure that the "check engine" warning light is functional (not disabled), and turns off when you start the car. In fact, check that all of the warning lights are functioning properly. Does Texas require a smog test upon transfer of title? Be sure the seller gets one before you hand over the money.

Steve, here's the problem. The car is out of state, on the east coast, seller is a dealer so it would be hard to get answers. I am going to check with the Texas DPS about the test, I do know we get our cars inspected every year and emmissions is part of that test. So I bet the answer is probably yes. Could they just be resetting the computer? that would really suck. I found a couple of local cars with clean histories that I may pursue, although I really wanted Silver.
Thanks for the PM iborroel.

Well - not necessarily - Mine is in perfect shape - the problem is that I don't drive it enough so even if I keep the battery hooked up with a computer - it still resets and I have to go through an entire drive cycle - it is probably ok.
