Default Cold Start Problems

Just wanted to tap into the boards knowledge about cold start issue I'm having w/my engine.

Problem: Rough on startup...can't touch gas or it wants to die. Once warmed up runs great. Also will start fine after warm up.

Thoughts????

...and thanks.

The idle air controller does fail with carbon build up. Can you energize and see the motor running?

Sounds like the motor temperature sensor make have given up .

If a sensor wire breaks the DME assumes a warm motor. Cold start will be bad but hot running will be fine .

Just my $0.02

My current thought is that it might be faulty CHT...

I'll also look at idle air controller....

Also, curious to know if a weak battery would cause this? It cranks fine, but dont' know what its putting out after start up.

Thanks

i had exactly the same problem in my Carrera and i had the MAF sensor replaced. i dont know if its the same with turbos.
stopped for a while but again am facing the same problem again, just exactly as you mentioned only on cold start up and if you touch the gas pedal it just shuts down.

Take a look at Actual values. Motor temperature reads -48 degrees or thereabouts.

All the best

Yep...prob was with wayward sensor making the engine think it was "hot" so no cold start sequence on start up....fixed...

thanks
