Default Should I upgrade II?

How about stuffing THIS engine in my car? Currently on Ebay. I'm not really a buyer, but I'd be interested to hear about it since two of our contributors here were named in the ad.

Claimed 600 hp with no internal mods and single plug, sounds like a grenade motor to me. Won't smog. Take a pass.

Sounds like Tal's engine?

Humm.... did not know that Kevin's stage 2 turbos can blow 600HP or more!
I wonder for how much it goes for.

This is Tal's engine that he had in his 964/4wheel drive car. The current configuration is not how it was originally tuned.. Looks like the wastegates were welded shut with the addition to adding tials..

Not only that he says, "Produced over 420hp measured at all 4 wheels at only 0.7bar, the standard factory boost pressure." Standard factory pressure was 0.8bar - now if he can't get that straight - RUN AS FAST AND AS FAR AS YOU CAN!

I would look at this another way. The leakdown looks within specs.. There would be a few items that would be needed to get it back to stock.. Mainly heat exchangers.. However, this engine is a steal at 12.5K, it would be a very good deal at 15K, a decent deal at 20K, and if parted out you'd make money at 25K.. I'll be watching it at 15K.. This would be worth going through and sticking it on my shelf..

Crank $1,500.00
Heads $3,500.00
Case $2,500.00
P & L's $2,500.00
Intercooler $800.00
Cat bypasses $1,000
Fan housing $750.00
Intake Manifold $2,500
Turbochargers $2,500
Fan and alternator $800.00
Cam housings $350.00
Oil Pump $450.00
Motec system with programming $3,500-4,000
Turbo sump A/C bracket $750.00
Misc sheetmetal and hardware $1,500

Not strictly true - A stock 993tt (which runs Motronically controlled boost not fixed boost) will produce its 408PS at "around" 0.65bar @ 5750rpm. The 0.8 bar may be seen at peak torque 4500rpm under certain conditions.
The stock intercooler on that motor is good for sustainable 550hp max in 3.8 trim.

I know why Tal got rid of the heat exchanges! but why go to the effort for the external wastegates?

Hi guys
Yes, this was my engine, was sold as part of the deal when I bought my new one, the value was way over 20K, I've never run over .9 bar and 550 Hp is a fair number, TB is right with the stock intercooler I couldn't run over .7 bar on hot days, the car was very fast let me remind you all I timed 100-200 Kmh in 6.9 sec consistently. I had difficulties controling the boost with the MoTec so I changed to Tials, I'm sure Jeoffrey could have solved it if he had a chance but I left the US earlier.
