Porsche service kit - oil filter
Can the Porsche OEM service kit contain Mahle oil filters or are they only supplied with Porsche oil filters? Sounds a bit stupid but I thought I would ask anyway

no, my car was serviced at my local Porsche specialist. I have a smoking problem since I got it back. It clears after about 5-10min drive. It's done it on the last 2 trips. Didn't have a problem before and it never used much oil. I know of the other threads on this topic. My shop told me that they used the one in the Porsche service kit. How much time does it take to change the small oil filter?

I agree with what Don just mentioned.. I have crushed a few Original Porsche filters to induce the same effect. Regardless of trying to grieve over the issue, go to the Porsche dealer and buy a few filters and put them on.. You can do it in 45 minutes..

So, also, if you *don't* screw it in tight enough, it will also not seat and do the same (between a rock and a hard place!).
Kevin, What effects does under/over screwing, and for that matter, having a non Porsche filter installed have on smoking if you have the updated oil return lines and check valves?? Do you think that having updated the oil circuit will stop all these problems, even if you try to induce smoking as you have tried? This is a good question....I think.

Jaime, to an extent the check valves and lines will stop the high level in the turbochargers. However, the faulty valve will siphon oil out of the oil tank and fill up your crankase.. It will be a matter of time before the oil level is over the turbine seal..

Thanks for the great info
Is it necessary to drain the oil when replacing the small oil filter?
Also, if the filter has been "crushed" in any way, is this obvious from the exterior or does the outer casing pop back out if you crush it? Just wondering if I can see it has been crushed from the outside cover of the filter.

You won't see it.. You could drain a little oil out of the crankcase.. Since oil is being siphoned from your sump tank your crankcase will be full.. Again have you looked under your car to see which filter is on the engine?
