Default home made muffler bypass 2

Well my last attempt at muffler bypasses worked out okay.
https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=28499
But, after seeing some larger dia. aftermarket tips on a friends car (thanx Darren ), I wanted to change tips. I found that a lot of the universal tips were quite a bit longer and I really couldn't shorten my previous bypass pipes without cutting into the bend and making it not a 90 degree bend any more. I wanted to use a resonated tip to mellow the sound out a little. so...I bought a cheap stick welder...

please don't look at/laugh at my welds (I know I should have practiced more - the last time I used a stick welder was a quarter of a centry ago on my dad's farm when I was a kid - luckly these welds do not have to be load bearing lol). I think they look pretty good on the car. Not sure how long the 90 degree joint will hold up but it was a fun project and wouldn't mind doing it/repairing it if needed. Heck may make other ones with different style tips when I'm tired of these...

cost: polished stainless resonated oval 3.5x5 tips $100 CAD each,
Misc stainless exhaust pipe 2.5" ID and 2.5"OD $20 CAD (actually left over from previous project), stick/arc welder with accessories $180 CAD, time spent planning/executing and being distracted from work and sick patients - priceless

You could probably use that stick welder for some cauterizing and write it off as a business expense!

hey that's a cool idea, I think I'll start calling the unipolar 'stick welder' instead of what I usually call it - baby blue burner/flame thrower!

ah, but with the tips I wanted to use, the 90 degree mandrel (?sp) bent tubing made the tips stick out too much and cutting back on the bend would make it not 90 degree any more/make it out of round (ask me how I know...). So, I made a mitre (sp?) joint which allowed the shortest 90 bend - and a lot more fun/got to buy a welder that I could use in future projects!

Here's some pics to help explain what I mean.
The top bypass pipe worked well with the stock tips, the bottom one I tried to cut back on the angle to get the longer tips to work but I wasn't satisfied with the length/appearance, so I made the miter joint which is the shortest possible.
Top pic - tips mounted with using mandrel bent tube cut back as far as I could.
Second pic - current with welded miter joint.
So, you can understand the satisfaction!!!

I've got a small collection of cut up mandrel bent 90's too. I feel a little embarrassed for not posting my failures like you did... hehehe...
