Default Deal on a TT???

I'm looking to buy a 993 C2 or a C4 but I'm wondering if I can find a screamin' deal on a TT for just a little more.

How often do damaged or really high milage (needing rebuild) TT's show up? I'm a mechanic, not a Porsche specialzed so I wouldn't try the top end work, so I can do all the work myself, body work included. I would draw the line at a car hit so bad the frame isn't true anymore though. Basically aside from that I'll take any condition! Of course I have other drivers and this would just be a great project for my 2 young sons and I. The 993TT is my ultimate dream car Well the '98 RUF CTR2 Sport and the 993 RSCS are but this is close enough

Anyone know of any that are around like this before I buy a 993 C2???

What about auctions or salvage yards? Insurance wrecks too maybe?

Thanks!

EDIT: I'm sure this kind of thing has been posted before and I'm sorry if I appear as a vulture upon someones bad fortune, that is not my intent even though it's the outcome unfortunantly. This would simply be saving somoene the trouble of parting it out, atleast the loving owner would see it restored and back on the road.

It is very far and few between that a easy builder will come through. Most twins have been off road excusions, and many have seen bottom's up (roll over).. There was a TT last month on ebay that had every panel damaged and they wanted 25K.. A rule of thumb that I have had with any 911.. Is if the windshield crack near the A-pillar walk away.. Even with doing the work yourself, parts are very expensive and many times you end up having to go to the dealer for the one part no one has..

Thanks for the A-pillar tip!

I know just how much the parts can be from owning previous Porsche's. I'd end up replacing almost all exterior damage with aftermarket panels, either in the form of a very good 959 kit or in CF or urathane GT2 or RUF CTR2 kit. Of course on all the mechanicals I'd never use anything less than genuine Porsche parts.

Dang that one last month sounds like the one I was looking for, lol!

That eBay TT at $47k actually seems pricey for 117k miles and a salvage title. This would be interesting at $39k.

I found that this morning on a search and that's what gave me the idea of this topic, lol.

Yeah that's more than I have right now. I'm more looking in the sub $30K range to compete with my buying a 993 C2...

Thanks for searching and posting the link though!

I would much rather buy a C2 or C4S with a clean title and move up to 993TT in the later future. Good luck.
