Default First C6 Z06 Track Encounter

Here is some in-car video while I was behind a Z06. With Kevin's Stage 1 upgrades it seems the TT is about the same in regards to acceleration. It shouldn't really be considering the weight and power advantage of the Z06 so attribute it to the TT getting the power down better. However, the Z didn't pull away at higher speeds either. Didn't get a chance to chat with the owner to see if he was backing off on the front straight. He definitely wasn't backing off on corner exits though.

The Z looks to be a great car. It will be fun to see more on the track next year. I hear it is very easy to get well over 50HP gains so I may have to call Kevin for Stage 2 for next Winter's project

Great video! I think you held back in a couple of corners there....didn't you

I think Z06's are great cars and it's their drivers behind the wheel that make much of a difference on and off track. See picture below you'll see what I mean.

Pete, Nice driving. Was the vett on street tires or "R"s?

Woodster""today's special, smoked porsche"
Hope he knows how to drive it, with a smack license plate frame like that. Vetts are getting a lot of buzz from the magazine testers. Should be a few on the track by Feb. in SoCal then we can see how they perform in the hands of club drivers. BTW, I don't think another 50hp will make them any faster on a road course without suspension changes.

The Z was on street tires; if they are as good as the F1's on the C5 Z06 then they are close in performance to the "common" R compounds.

I had a C5 Z06 last year and it was simply amazing on stock tires. I put RA1's on it and frankly they were only a bit more grippy in the dry; tons more grippy in the wet though. The stock tires were downright scary in the rain.

I may have to get a C6 Z06 in a couple of years after they sort it out; the C5's weren't fully sorted until the last model year came out. Cool cars I hope some day they lose the "gold chain and cowboy boots and straw hat" stigma; man I took a lot of crap from my wife, neighbor and friends when I owned the Z... my track buddies even bought me a straw Corvette hat! Wife refused to ride in it... didn't want to even be seen in it. Upside was that she bought me an Elise last year so I'd get rid of the Z... turned out okay in the end

Of course, now I have to find one for historical purposes; I hadn't heard about it until now. Here is a story about the guy that coined that phrase, which was actually "Wrap your *** in fiberglass, drive a Vette": http://www.tracyperf.com/articles.html

Yep, losts of fun, but the pavement is complete garbage; some of it is decades old with patches and even chunks missing. It's hard to get good traction and the two sweepers (T2 and T8) eat right side tires. But, it's close by (40 min drive for me) and it *is fun*.
