Default RS Tuning tuned tt911 article

For those of you who weren't into this in '98, here is an article from 911 & Porsche world issue 51 Back issues can still be got I think.
This is what a real 530hp tt 911 with 5 speed gearbox, ~1500kg and fancy aerodynamics can do. The new Ruf RT12 is only 0.4s quicker to 124mph despite its 650hp - makes you think
BTW check out the typo on the torque #

Interesting article. Tal's car had the 964 C4 5spd gearbox still in the car when I tuned it. I thought that it might be a problem with the power, but it seems fine and I really liked the shorter gearset when I drove the car and made it very responsive. I do notice that the RS tuning car runs to 221mph, so they must have changed the gear ratios in the trans.

The 754RSNM ~554lb/ft required $3500 (at 1995 prices) worth of gearbox mods to extend the top gear and to cope with the torque.

I wondered why it was a 5-speed and then saw the interior, it is 964 based.
WOW, very cool!!

TB I had been looking for that article for about 2 years and finally got hold of it last month, now you post it!! Thanks for posting.

I think the important message here is that a good builder is the one who can put the right package together to build a well balanced sick car. That 0-300kph is close to what the 700+ 9FF car does with all the water injection gizmos etc... 6-7 years later and on a much more efficient watercooled engine.

Also interesting to see how the 5 speed gearbox performs. The two fastest quartermile Porsche in the US that I know of, both have 5 speed boxes, with trap speeds reaching the 150+ mph in 9+ seconds.

Hmmm..next mod? the gearbox would be lighter too!

1000 lb/ft of torque @ 4750 rpm means the engine is producing over 900 hp at that engine speed.

Where is the technological progress with all those blown up 996 turbos?

The 996 GT 2 with 525 hp and also 750NM I drove again today is not even close to this rocket. Neither in acceleration nor in top speed.

What is the weight of that car? ~ 1400kg?
What intercooler is that?

Guy
The car was tested by Sport Auto, it is the one on this site, tested in 1997:

Stummel
Weight is 1492kg according to Sport Auto test.
The intercooler has "Behr" written on the cores.

Behr = Secan. They work jointly.

Thank you for posting the article. I'll go look for issue 51 and hope I have it.
