993TT Boost Guage
#4
Here's the one I use. Made by Defi and very high quality. Also notice the oil temp gauge to it's right. Hard to find a place to install this gauge unless you have a telephone console. Also, I would suggest finding a way to have the old 935 boost gauge installed in the clock location, as anything lower is hard and dangerous to read when you're on the boost. Do a search as there have been some previous discussions about this issue.

My winter project is to take a spare clock and remove the clock internals and replace it with a VDO 52mm boost gauge. This will allow me to keep all the indicator lights and have a boost gauge in a fairly usable location.

Lights? Lights? I don't need no stinking lights!!!! I guess it looses something when you just read it and can't apply an accent. I just used a nice big boost gauge right where I can see it easily. I tucked the clock with the wiring connected back inside the dash so as not to cause any other issues with the warning lights. Anyway, I always figured that if any of the clock warning lights came on a) the big ! will also come on letting me know there is a problem. b) I can always pull any of the codes then from the OBD2 port or c) in 30 seconds I can pull the speedo and see what warning light is on
I just do not think that a boost gauge should make you take my eyes off the road (would you do the same with the tach or speedo?). Especially since it is most important when you are also on it and probably traveling the fastest.

If you can make me one I will gladly pay you for your time and expertise

I probably spoke too soon; now the value of 2nd hand clocks will skyrocket!
The project looks to be theoretically possible; I need to finish taking apart the clock and boost guage and figure out how to mount the internals of one inside the other. Once it's working I'll need to get a face silkscreened.
I've got loads of other things to do so please don't expect any answers soon. But it looks like a fun challenge that may give something useful.

for those who have taken out the clock, how long is the wiring harness that connects to it? Could the clock be moved to a console without major rewiring?

Doug:
I recently purchase a "donor" 993 clock to use to sleuth and make a harness extension for the "idiot" lights. I don't care about the clock, but I would like some of the lights.
Yet, another winter project. I will happy post pictures and share results. First is the completion of the euro nose with turbo "S" chin spoiler as well as doing the Recaro A8 seat restore / install. Stay tuned.
Regards
