Hi Kevin

I've already driven it about 600km... so should I drive it another 300km, and then change the oil? Then go out on the track?

At or around 500 miles I would change the oil.. I'd put another 200-300 miles on your engine before I'd take it to the track..

Hi Kevin

OK - I will look into it - might be difficult since the event is this Sunday/Monday.

As a matter of interest, what is the significance of the oil change?

Whenever you have a rebuild or top-end repair. You have new components that establish wear patterns. You also have gasket material and carbon deposits that break loose. Your oil picks this up and deposits the debris in your oil filters.. If your filters get clogged, your filters will then bypass the elements. Your engine oil will then not have the ability to rid itself of particulate contamination..

Still no answer on the ring question. Can you just change out the rings without changing out the cylinders?

No, you have to remove the cylinders off the pistons to expose the rings. You can check the cylinders out and see if they are within spec and reuse them.

Hi Everyone

Finally, after having the car for all of 2 weeks before it needed the rebuild, and then not being able to drive it for the last 2 months or so... I got it back last week in time for a Level 3 Driver Education Event with Porsche here in Melbourne!

So Sunday and Monday this week I spent time doing motorkana and track work, and loved every minute of it! Although on the Sunday I did take it easy due to my lack of confidence with the car... by Monday I was much more confident.

What a car. Oh, man... what a car!

We had 2 993TTs there, myself and another rennlister David, also from Melbourne. We were up against 996TTs, GT3s, 997's etc... and I think by looking at the lap times/ motorkana times we can hold our heads high! These cars rock!

Thanks again for all the help and support from this group during the engine rebuild!
