I have booked into the Level 3 Driver Training at Winton, so I hope to have the car back before then. As for running it in... if I get it back with a few days to spare I will take it for a country drive
Will you be there too?

When I rebullt my engine I did the bottom end as well as it was only around another £750 to do the main bearings. If it costs a similar amount on a 993TT then I think its a mistake to not do it...
Once you have it done though its such a good feeling, especially when they fire up the car for the first time after all the work has been done and then run it at intermediate RPM for several minutes to help everything 'bed in'....
I used Carillo's not for the power (around 315rwhp) but more for the additional strength and ability to handle high RPM. I think my redline is set at 7250 at the moment for street use, but it does develop enough HP above 7250 to make it worth extending the redline some on the track for example. I think my valvetrain is good for 7.5K (titanium), the Carillo's are good for 8K as are the 3.8 Cup P&C's I used....
Engine rebuilding is so exciting, if I could afford to have it done (i.e. I am mechanically challenged)every year I would! There are so many options to try and it helps if you have a tuner who knows their stuff! Good luck!

What sort of lifetime can you expect from the titanium components? 20k, 50k, 100k miles before rebuild?

Hi J,
Without totally hijiacking this thread I must say that I have no idea although as they are far stronger than stock they should last pretty well despite the powerhike. I have done 10K miles so far on the engine with no problems (well the starter motor left me stranded recently but thats totally different). It also depends on how the car is driven of course, as I only use it on the road as the car is too loud for most tracks here in the UK I think it will be OK. The 'problem' with this unit is that although it already produces over 225lb/ft at 2500rpm, the power curve is such that it will fly from 4K rpm to the redline at 7250 without even pausing for air. For example between 4000 and 5000rpm alone the torque goes from approx 245 to 300 and the HP from around 200 to 280 (fwhp) (and it is still developing over 325fwhp at 7200)....so it gets a bit addictive. Of course the car is driven with respect at all times on the road as I can in the wet get wheelspin in 2nd gear as I pass through the 4K level and in even on dry roads I can spin through 1st and 2nd gears completely without let up. I guess there are more things to come on the car but this will be some time down the line. At 1300kgs, the car is powerful enough to get you in to all sorts of problems both from a driving as well as legal perspective
Sorry for hijack guys!
(Suggest you speak to Colin at 9M for estimates on longevity, he might have some idea)

Car back in my hands!!!!
Hi Everyone
Finally I have the car back!
I have driven it about 500 kms, and I'm itching to give it a full throttle treatment all through the gears! I am planning to do some track work this weekend, so that should get things running nicely!
Thanks for all the input everyone! She sounds sensational!
Oh, by the way, check out the new plates, what do you think (sorry about the quality of the pic):

Congrats Kevin!
You should update your plate to 993 490 and while you are in there ...
Have fun blasting through the gears!

Kevin;
I would drive your car a little more before putting it on the track.. Maybe another 300km.. And have the oil and filters changed in the next 100km..
