Default Dyno Suggestions

Doing a dyno on my 96 tt next tuesday and was wondering if you guys might have some advice for me on how to maximize my time. It's my first time to dyno the car and other than unhooking the AWD I'm not sure what other things I should do in advance or be looking for while I'm there. Don't really have much of a plan other than just to have a little fun and see what the numbers are. My mechanic is coming with me so if you guys have any advice on things we can do let me know. Thanks much!!

darrendeguire: Why would you unhook the AWD? I would rather look for an AWD dyno. Just my $0.02.

i haven't checked around much but i'm not sure if there are many around here. what advantage is there to a four wheel dyno anyway? it seems most of the results listed here are for two wheel.

I don't want to make a comment on advantages. I have a RWD 944 turbo so I have no experience. Maybe you will get a much more accurate HP reading since you will do a dyno run with the AWD in place. Just as you would on the street. You aren't going to unhook the AWD when running on the street are you?

When you talk about results listed here are you talking about HP results. I would think that most of the guys here are posting HP results from an AWD dyno. Maybe someone else can comment.

i don't really drive my car on the street. i have always run it with awd on the track but i'd like to try it in rwd. I not 100% sure but i thought most of the results i was seeing were from rwd dyno's for torque and hp. i didn't search much for an awd dyno because i wanted to have some other results to compare to. i guess i better do another search on the posts to make sure....

ps - can you ship me some steamers and a pitcher of cold beer from Iver's!!!! oh, and a nice view of the puget sound and mountains!!

If you do an AWD dyno make SURE the front rollers are mechanically linked to the rear rollers, otherwise you may toast your viscous coupler.

Now who was it who said?
"2WD TT is either Hilarious or Terrifying, depending on your driving skills"

I also recommend Scotts advice, would be a shame to burn something expensive just for a dyno-run..

Search for a mustang AWD dyno. The front and rear rollers travel at the same speed. Stay away from Dyno Dynamics AWD dyno.

Most 2wd dynos are dyno jets. They only use a heavy drum.

I regularly use both Dyno Dynamics and Dynapack dynos for tuning AWD Porsches and have never had any issues. Both are made in Austrailia/New Zeland where AWD cars are more prevelant.

You will get a lower hp and torque number when testing on an AWD dyno than you will with a 2wd dyno. I have found the drivetrain loss of a 2wd G50 trans car to be in the 15% range depending on the dyno, and in the 22-24% range on an AWD dyno.

Max HP at RW - 360. Torque - 325

Issues: Ran very rich. Boost was pegged at over1.0 bar on a mechanical guage.

Would like to hear your input....more info to come.

Darren, just a quick question, in what gear was the test done? It says 6 second run and max. 40MPH on the sheet, is that correct?

It was done in 3rd gear. The time and speed is wrong on the sheet. I have no idea why.
