Default 1997 Turbo 4 or Turbo S ???

I've always wanted the last of the air cooled Porsche's and now that I can afford one, I have a few questions on what I want. I did a google search and didn't find much so please bear with me....

I know there were the following produced:

1997 993 Turbo 4
1997 993 Turbo S

From what I read the Turbo S has a 424HP 3.6 Vs. the Turbo 4's 400HP 3.6.

Both could be had with the 6-spd right?
Both have the Carrera 4S All-Wheel drive right?

I want either Black/Black or Blue/Grey. Was the Turbo S made in these colors or just the Yellow?

EDIT: Also is there an RUF version of the '97 993 Turbo 4 that was made?

I've attached a picture of the blue that I'd like but I'd appreciate it if someone could tell me what the color was called in 1997...

Thanks!

Welcome to Rennlist!
I hope you'll find your answers here. There are a massive amount of information available here, and the search function will provide plenty of useful information and tips! Have you perhaps had any Porsches before?

Here are some figures.

SAE - Figures.
U.S:
Turbo S 424 hp
Turbo 402hp or 424 hp (X50)

R.O.W
Turbo S had 443 hp R.O.W
Turbo had 402hp or 424 (X50) or 443 (XLC)

Ruf made one 993TT based model, one 993TT conversion and one 993 conversion:
RUF CTR2 - 993TT based model (also avaliable as Sport)
RUF TurboR - 993TT conversion model
RUF BTR - 993 conversion model

Turbo S is more of a collectors car, and was made in several different colors. I'd look for a normal Turbo if you're planning to use the car. I'm not 100% sure on the color of the car you posted, but I'm sure someone else knows what color it is!

Good luck with your search, and you are most welcome with more questions.

Thanks!!!

Well I'll forget about the Turbo S since this will be a well driven car. I did a quick search on the Ruf CTR2 and I think they may be too few and far between to be able to find one for sale. Although it would be a wet dream come true to find a RUF VIN 1998 RUF CTR2 Sport 580hp in Iris Blue

Looks like I'll start my search looking for a 1997 993 Turbo 4 in Iris Blue with +/- 30K miles so that it's just had it's 30K done by a Porsche dealership so I know it checks out mechanically sound.

At what milage would I not consider one of these cars, 80K, 90K, ??? I definantly don't wanna be doing a rebuild for atleast another 4 years or more after purchase. I won't be moding it until atleast that point either.

Thanks!

I don't think I'd use a mileage guideline so much as an individual car condition guideline. There can be a great variation in condition regardless of mileage based upon use or abuse by the owner. Keep your eyes peeled for an Arena Red car, in case one comes up. Oh... wait a minute... mine is for sale!

Well, the RUF CTR2 is a +$150k car, and only produced in very small numbers. So I wouldn't consider it a mass production car...

Have you had any Porsches before you decided on a 993TT? I'm sure you will not be unhappy with a regular 993TT. Check out http://www.993tt.com/ you will find some good information about the car there and what to look for when buying a used one.

The condition of the car is very much up to previous owners. You should do a PPI when you find one that suits you well. It's well invested money. The miles reflects much of the value of the car. I think the U.S market works in about the same way as the European on Porsches. It's the miles and not the age that counts.

Hehe, and you're not doing any modding in 4 years? Well, I bet you $100 that you'll be looking at mods in a month after you've owned the car. And this is the best place to find out what can be done and what should NOT be done. Anyway, good luck with your search.

As you seem to be just starting out.....PPI stands for pre purhase inspection including at minimum a compression check and a leak down check if you want to cover all bases. Porsche service and a PPI are two different animals. All 1996 and 1997's are pretty much the same car, so don't limit your search to 97. All turbo's are 6 speed and all wheel drive.Plan on $55-75K for a descent car. Good luck.

After your first drive...you'll be smiling so big your eyes will be squinted shut and you won't even see the color! Black looks nice, but you really loose the shape of the car which is really gorgeous. But I agree that yellow is a bit loud and a bit..."hey, look at me!"...but then again it is a Ruf and you SHOULD look!

Well that's not neccesarily true.I own a 1998 UK Spec (443BHP) Turbo 'S' in Arctic Silver/Black,which I have had since new.I never bought it as an investment,it is a great track car,a great drag car,and I have driven from London to Athens in it as well. It was my only car back then, but since then i have retired it from daily use and reserve it just for track days/drag races. It has 15,000 miles on it. It is a special car,no doubt.Sometimes i just look at it for ages and other times i just drive the sh*t out of it.

This car can be all things to all men...just depends what you are looking for.

PS i think the colour you want is midnight blue
