Default Street tire recommendations

I have Bridgestone S03's mounted right now and use them on the street and at the track. Having recently purchased a new set of wheels, I am planning to mount either Michelin Pilot Sport Cups or Hoosier competition tires on my current wheels for track use, and then mount street only tires on my new wheels.

I have researched S03's, S02A's, and many other options. I'm looking for good street performance and longer wear. What are your experiences and recommendations?

I use the MPSC's on both the track and street. I'm in So Cal where it's pretty dry and I don't drive in the rain anyway. What size rim widths did you get for your track rims? I ask because the OEM hollow spokes are only 8's and 10's, and if you're serious about your track setup you need something wider to accomodate larger tires-especially up front where your 3300 lb car turns in like the QE3! I run 9's & 11's track, and have a set of 996 hollow spokes for the street, 8's & 11's. Definitely run at least 235's up front, 295's in the rear....

Jim, I use Pirelli PZero, and they work very nice.
Btw, that is a very nice car you have, any plans to tell us more about it?

Cheers

I posted on this topic on the 930 board, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 is the consensus, I recently flat spotted all four of my new Pirelli P Zero Nero and they have nowhere near the grip of the PS2 which arent even scrubbed in yet.

S03s are a heavy tyre and were not really designed with Porsche's in mind. I would recommend the S02A N3 or Pirrelli Rosso N4. The Pirrelli has a much higher wear index than the S02A something like 220 compared to 140.

Just FYI - wear ratings really only can be compared within a brand, not between brands....

Jim:

I have run two sets of Michelin PS2's now for two sets of street tires. Overall I like the PS2.

However, per one of Viken's latest (last) posts, I was taking an interest in the Pirelli Corsa "System" he moentioned and see if 235/295 sizes become readily avaiable. I might try the Pirelli "system" next as my one comment on the PS2's is the sidewall seems and feels soft. It's a forgiving tire, but maybe too much so in an 18 in for the 993TT...

Thanks for the feedback, and please keep it coming.

Rassel - there aren't many stories on my car. Plain, stock everything other than suspension, which was just upgraded with PSS-9's and Carrera S rollbars about a month ago. This upgrade had a slight affect on street harshness, and a huge affect on high speed tractability and track performance.

Marty - yes sir! I'm not sure what corner this is, but there was a great photographer at BIR when I was up with the BMW Club. I really like his work and hope to see him up there again when the sun is shining!

TB993tt (btw, love your car) - see http://www.advanceautoparts.com/engl...l#Tread%20Wear I know I've heard this from enough different places and people I trust that I believe it to be correct.

Doug
Thanks for the link (and the car comments - love the yellow ) So the wear rating is pretty useless then unless you happen to know how long other tyres in the that Manufacturer's line up wear, which is pretty unlikely since each manufacturer has limited number of models which you can put on a 993 !

Have found Conti Sport Contact 2 to be very good all round.

Had a set of p-zeros on before, and they were great in the dry, though scary in the wet.

Thanks

Martyn.
