Default 97 vs. 98 who wins?

Any difference between a 97 and 98 engine?

Thanks,

The 96 ecu is not reprogrammable. The 97 ecu can be reprogrammed for performance upgrade purposes. Also the 97 is supposed to have a SLIGHTLY stouter first gear shaft in the gearbox. (You can still tweak it if you do dump-clutch starts.) I think the 97s also can have rain sensing wipers and self dimming mirrors and a little light over the ignition that the 96s do not have.

The 96s, at least the early ones, still have the good horns, with one disconnected(easily remedied).

Really? I have the old horns, but I didn't know one was disconnected. Is it disconnected at the horn and obvious? I have to check this out as I have been less than impressed with the "good" horn(s) so far.

Mike Shatz told me, as he was repairing mine, that the horn is not disconnected, but they go bad all the damn time!

My horns had one wire neatly clipped at the connector near the horn. Crimped on a new connector and was at full toot. Sorry for the slight OT.

I LOVE my horn, it sounds like it belongs in a little 60's beetle out of a cartoon, it sounds loud to me, I don't know if this is the "good" or the "bad" horn but i dig the cookyness of it (mines a 96 tt BTW)

What year was the 993tt "s"?

TT"S" models were sold in the USA in 1997 and 1998. There were no "normal (non-"S")" turbos sold in 1998. There were very few genuine TT"S" models (~250) produced, and they are highly valued by collectors.

If you're in the market, be sure to check out a GT3 before pulling the trigger LA964RS . JMHO
