Default K16 Hybrid $$

I searched the threads here and found a lot of info on the k16 k24 debate, but I have a few other Q.

2 Questions:

1. What does it cost to have someone convert the stock K16 to a hybrid

2. If you do the k16 hybrid do you need to change the ECU settings as well.

Thanks.

Contact Kevin as he is the one all the tuners go to to get hybrids. The cost is really dependent on what you are looking for. Regarding question #2, you would need to remap your ECU to take full advantage of the hybrids. There are a number of tuners that can do it and Kevin can recommend someone for that.

You'll need to get the cost of the turbo-swap labor from your mechanic. You can get current hybrid pricing from Devek or any other sponsor who sells them.

If you want to enjoy the maximum benefits of a turbo change then yes, you need a reprogrammed ecu. Get that pricing from the various folks that do that.
Giac,Protomotive,Andial etc.

Or just let your mechanic coordinate all these things and pay him directly. If I were guessing on price - I'd say 8K to 12k.

I don't know where you live but you may consider just shipping the car to the best shop and then you will know it's being done right by an experienced set of hands.

Default this question should get you many responses, here's mine

A very good and somewhat complicated question:
k16 hybrid stage 2 with all options about $4000 performed on you existion turbos.
ecu must be reprogrammed:
options (that I know of);
a)todd knighton at protomotive, 480 or 560 program (with adj boost controller)
b)giac 91 octane program for the california guys (rennsport, imagine auto)
c)fvd usa (brian) has less experience with stage 2 turbos
d) motec software (doesnt use the ecu at all) expensive (geoffrey, or Imagine auto)
e)gunther or some other tuner but needs your car to do it

sideline note, I believe if you do kevin's "stage 1" turbos that some of
the more standard programming and maybe even stock ecu will work??

stage 2 and beyond requires someone who has successfully programmed
specifically for these types of turbos (like todd @ protomotive)

My car is "very fast" with stage 2 z/c and protomotive 560. but
there are alot of ways to accomplish this...

Marty or anyone else:

It is my understanding that the Giac 91 Octane program that was written for the Stage 2 ZC turbos is owned by, and only available through, Speed Gallery in LA. I think the others are selling a version of Giac's off-the-shelf K24 program. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I'm lucky for this one as I'm in Los Angeles so many of the good tuners are available. I've met Todd and been to his shop and also been to Andial. Its a bit of time away for the upgrade but I'm looking at options.

Thanks for the info.

I heard that you can get the most resale value for your TT if you remove all those questionable cutting-edge HP upgrades, and trade them off to some poor Rennlister for his stock parts....(not that anyone on this board is considering selling his TT....)

I did the hybrid upgrade initially w/o touching the ecu, but we did install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. I did eventually install an upgraded ecu and it does make a difference.

Hal, is it safe to assume that you have kevin's stage 1 turbos?
My understanding is that there is a difference in ecu programming between stage 1
and stage 2 turbos (the 2's have a tendancy to spike boost i believe). I do not believe
that the "off the shelf" fvd ecu will work for the stage 2's. someone please correct
me if I am wrong, I am still a relative newbie.
regards,
mk

I do have the stage 1 upgrade. Your best bet is to speak directly with Kevin.

Hal;

Now that you have the ECU, you can crank up some more boost if you want..

Kevin - I think I am running a 1 bar

Rob - it is a stock upgraded FVD program. I spoke with ViperBob about a custom program and he said that it is probably only a matter of a few % increase with optimization and for my purposes, not worth the cost.

I do not even have an upgraded ECU. I only recently got hybrids since my turbos were leaking but that's it. Still plenty of fun around the track. Hal, when are you coming out to the track again?
