Default 3 spoke steering wheel

Hi everyone I finally found a 3 spoke steering wheel off of a 996 for my 96 TT, It was rather expensive at $400 but I've seen them go for more also, it's a take off and includes the airbag and i'm looking forward to putting it on. Anyone have any tipps on the install ?Thanks, Doug

disconnet the battery for about 30 minutes before you take the old wheel off.....

I found the steering wheel & air bag for sale on ebay and the auction had just started and was at $167, it was a buisness that had it for sale so I called them up and asked them if they had a 3 spoke wheel for my 96 TT and just happened to get the guy that had the wheel up for auction and he told me he had it on ebay so I asked him how much they usually went for he said he didnt know but figured $300 to $400 so I told him I would give him $400 and he said OK So thats how I got my steering wheel Doug

I am the only old fart who thinks the 996 wheel does not belong on the last of the hand built air cooled 911s and compared to the 993tt four spoker looks cheap and nasty ?

I too preferred the subtler look of the four spoke 993TT wheel versus the bolder and gaudier embellishment of the crest on my current GT3. ..And no, the silver crest is an even bigger no-no for me as much as I prefer silver to gold - if you have to have a crest, then better to live with the official logo than a "now hip" silver logo. Of course, I would much rather have no crest or, if that is not possible, the imprint of the crest as on my 993TT wheel. But, I am not spending money on changing my gold crest because, best of all, I like to keep my money and drive my car.

Hey, now we have choices. ..and the best to those who take advantage of the options. Not that it matters but I am not against the trend, just a matter of personal preference on a very subjective matter. Not all 996 things look bad on a 993; it is just that a few of them seem to look particularly out of place (for example the handsome carbon 996 shifters dont do it for me on a 993 since they are too "thick").

TB993tt, are you one of the last of the TT owners from the days of the old board (old format). I think Anir, Dick in TN and I were around and perhaps a couple of others who frequented less often.

Not necesary !
- as long as the key is out of the ignition, there is no chance of triggering the airbag.

[I changed to a 996 3 spoke with silver crest ......to match the silver faced gauges ]

no you arent the only one... i dont like the way the 996 steering wheel looks in the 993 either...however, i also dont like the 993 4-spoke wheel... i think it looks like it belongs in a buick...

this is the one upgrade that i have really struggled with... problem with AJUSA/FVD models is that there is nothing on the airbag cover...just black... i think that looks weird...there should be something there...

i looked closely at this steering wheel during a recent visit at RUF...they let me take it into my car to see how it looked with the interior...color matched perfectly, and it actually looked a bit "old school" in the car... in the following picture, its part of a more modern scheme, but it looks equally well in the 993...

two problems 1) i dont own a RUF, so feels a little sell-out... 2) its $1500...ridiculous

Ken, is that a 996tt steering wheel in carbon, never seen one.

OT: Couldn't help but notice in the foreground your modified cell phone consule. Got one too and considering its removal, what did you do, can you private me some pix.

Now back to thread, no hi-jack intended.....

Include RufRacer and JJayB in that - I was 34 when I started causing trouble on here and had owned the tt for 2 years, now I'm definately an old (993tt) fart I would say the board is much better now days with all the 993tt traffic

Well my 3 spoke wheel with the silver crest came in today and should match my aluminium gear shift, e-brake and gauge faces nicely, now all I have to do is install it. Doug
