Sorry the car is at the shop for gearbox work and moving the controller into the ashtray. If no one else has pics of the ashtray install I'll take some when mine comes back in a week or four.

I thought that that the manual boost controls were bypassing some impotant parts of the motronic ECU. I remember concern being expressed that this could get you into the danger zone with internal engine issues. But then again I don't know what I am talking about.

Keith, I (wild) guess the danger will be of overboosting your engine and lifting the heads or creeping up torque to break some rod bolts if the internals are stock and your turbos are large. People like me have to keep the EBC out of reach. The knock sensors are still operational I presume.

Jean;
You are correct the knock sensors still are in effect, however when the ECU senses "knock" timing is pulled.. People will over and over, reach under the seat or drop the ash-tray door to "crank up the boost" wanting more power.. The added boost will overcome the timing loss, more times than not you will break a ring land... Auxilary boost controller override the engine safe-gaurds. They will cost you more money in the long run.. Yes, we can debate, water-cooled cars lasting under boost. These engine are air-cooled and the thermal reserves have to be safe guarded.. Bad gas, high temps, + Z06, Viper,??? = engine overhaul. With this said, if you run the controller, set it at a level that you think is safe for all the mentioned conditions and leave it alone...

Kevin, thanks for the explanation.

Are auxiliary boost controllers safe?
As Kevin knows, I am wrestling with this question right now.
From what I have determined, you will never be sure. But everyone says that you *should* be ok at those levels of boost.
