I have been thinking about these cars lately. I bought my tt and now wonder what it would be like to have something in 2wd. Damn thing has the steering wheel on the wrong side!
Are these cars hard to find stateside and how are the values over here ?

993 GT2's are not imported here. If you find one state-side it's a grey market car.
To get 2WD, you can disable the front drive shaft (Biperbob did that to his 993tt) but the weight remains. Or get a 993 RUF BTR-2, like mine. I only have 426 HP, but if I'm willing to spend $$ on VB, I can get above 500 HP. $$$$ wil get me 550 HP. VB has about 650 HP in this 993tt. Somehow this much power scares me.

Thanks, as a newby I'm learning about these models on the fly. I spoke w/VB just this week about 2wd conversion. Other than a search here its hard to find the various a-cooled models that are available and if you can even get one in the states. Is there a Bible for p-cars anywhere?
I wouldn't mind finding a collectible P-car of this sort to hang next to the twin in the garage. Sure like the 3.8rs that was in Excellence a few issues ago.

Tom,
It's hard to say which one is the ultimate street Porsche, although the 993GT2 certainly presents real strong arguments. The 959 probably is as close to an unanymous choice as it comes. Kinda like the 300SL Gull Wing. A lot of people like the RSR because that is as close to a race car (not just a sports car) as one can get in a Porsche and still street legal. Again, RS and RSRs are not imported to the States. The RS and RSRs are factory built for minimum weight.
The GT2s have immense HP, 2WD, virtually no electronic safety devices (PSM, etc.), but they are not true light weight racers. The 993 GT2 has very unquie riveted-on front and rear fenders and an unmistakable wing that sets it apart visually. I saw a white replica last year during our Bay Area Porsche meet and it's a stunning looking car. I think a guy named Boris owns that one.
To learn more about various Porsche models I find this site very helpful.

It has separate write ups, specifications, press evaluations, and pics on most Porsches models, including race cars. Although the specification data are not 100% correct at all times. Nevertheless a great resource.
I'm by no means an expert in this area, just an enthusiastic owner.
Good luck.

If you would like to know a bit more about the GT2, there is some basic info in this thread.
https://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/164470-fyi-993gt2-production-numbers-and-specs.html
I have done (rather in progress) the 2WD VB conversion, very straightforward and inexpensive and it will save you around 150 lbs according to Bob. He can also send you a great DIY manual he wrote.

Miles,
If I remember correctly what John Hawkins told me, that very car is one of only 12 RHD examples - and he takes pride in the fact that there is not a single drop of non-factory paint on it! At one point they spent hundreds of hours cleaning and waxing the entire car - bodywork, mechanicals, the underside - everything - each and every single part and component! I don't think he is ever selling it though! While you're there have a look at his red Ruf!
Give John and Glyn my best rergards - great guys, extremely knowledgable, friendly and Zymol experts!
Best regards
Emilios

What engine mods does that car have to get 550hp, certainly must have more than listed in the advert ?

The 993 GT2 is rarer than the 959 and commands the same or higher prices, while being much easier to maintain, as most of the parts can still be had from Porsche or aftermarket. If you have to change a tire on your 959 you might have to wait for 6 months or more, I have a friend who waited 1 year for a differential (or VC, I can't remember).
It was a turning point in Porsche history I agree. But the looks are no match IMO other than the Group B version.
