Default Motronic ECU Identification

Hey Guys, a fairly newbie question here...

I just bought a Motronic ECU off Ebay.

Bosch silver label:
0 261 294 377
993.618.611.00
Typ 98 Cartronic

White paper label:
993.618.666.10
Typ 993 MW-TU 01
01 4560 10.5.99
Ersatzteil-Steuergerat

It has what looks to be an Autothority ECU tamper seal/identification sticker on it.

Is there any way to plug this up and tell what kind of programming it has? It was advertised as "paid $4,000 for it" and "bumps horsepower from 420 to 490 and torque to 476 ft. lbs."

And, should I even plug it in without Kevin Hybrids, Viper Bob Clutch, Steve's goodies, etc? Or should I just forget I have it until everything else is ready?

You definately don't want to plug it in without Kevin hybrids and or bob's magic clutches.....

I'd call Autothority on Monday and ask them for the info.. See if there are any software revisions...

Thank you, thank you for keeping an eye on us newbie types. Just think of all the Porsche product guys like me would destroy if left alone with a 993 Turbo.

I bet if we could see the books, your good Porsche karma account is up in the seven digit range... hehehe...

ecu#'s

you have the correct ecu: 0.261.204.377 is a 97-98 usa turbo (single chip flashable ecu)

it is imminently changeable, but do not use autothority, they are famous for overboosting
use protomotive or fvd (go to www.993tt.com) for more info

So did I, and I ended up selling my N.A and buying a TT.
It costed me over $40K. Expensive advice...

... and one of the best ones I ever had

Hi Marty:

Good advice and I'd add that GIAC software is just as good as the others you mentioned.

In some cases, its better,.....

No matter what you do, make sure that your local fuels will support the HP upgrade you choose. Remember, detonation thresholds are NOT static and change with outside air temperatures. Overly aggressive ECU programming will trigger the knock sensors prematurely and the ECU then reduces boost & timing as required.

In situations like that, you have less HP than stock,.....

You guys have my undivided attention on this. I'm just going to put the ECU in a safe place until I can do a full package.
