If its a picture from your speedometer, that can't be used as an accurate measurement of speed.
US magazines typically don't report speedomoter error in their reviews, but UK or Australian magazines typically do. Its not uncommon to see +5% to +7% errors with the speedometer, and that includes Porsches. I actually don't know why these errors are seen as you'd image it can;t be that hard to accurately measure... but it does happen.
Accelerometer packages such as G-Force and so on also have errors and are prone to drift.
The only accurate way to measure speed is a timed 2-way run (to cancel effects of wind) measured using:
(1) Light beams
(2) 5th wheel (or optical equivalent)
(3) Differential-GPS from folks like Vbox
Back to the original claim of 175-mph for a 993 Cab, the car would need to be making ~300-bhp to achieve that speed.
Ot there was a 15-mph tail wind on the day...
Karl.

Interesting stuff....I make no claims other than I am a car guy who happened to be driving a Porsche 993 C4 Cab and the needle was pointed just passed 175 mph......oh yeah, and the scenery was moving by rather rapidly as well.

I have been driving the Carrera 4 Cab for the past week or so every day, and I think it is helping me decide. With the overall amount of rain we have had around here lately, it makes me feel pretty safe to be able to have the all-wheel drive under me helping to grab traction when I have to accelerate rapidly to merge onto the highway from a wet and slippery on-ramp. Not only that but the Carrera is a very easy to drive car. Having had the car around since December 1997 there has never been a time where I have been uncomfortable driving it. I like that. I can only imagine that the added power of a Twin Turbo will make this excitement even greater. Now if only I can work past the seductive looks and sound of the F355....
