It would be nice to hear what all of you have done to modify the car for track use.
Weight, chassi, body, engine, all of it!
What performance did you gain?
Was it expensive?
So, please me know what you have done.
Btw, I got some serious problem to do heal-toe downshifts (especially with lighter braking). Anyone else has this problem with standard pedals, or is it I that need to get better boots?
My sunroof is stock. That is all that is left in that condition. Everything else has been modified. The car is now 2 wheel drive and weighs just over 2800 lbs. HP is estimated at 600+ (will be taking it to the dyno next week hopefully). Suspension is Moton with 800/1200 lb springs. Add a bunch of carbon fiber to the hood, GT2 front spoiler, and carbon kelvar factory GT2 tail, That about covers some of the major items. And YES it was very expensive....
I lightened my car by using "factory" parts. 959 aluminum doors and hood. The biggest challenge is the suspension. I've been throught four configurations and have what I think is the best street/track combiation. A few engine mods, 3.8 twin plug, cams, intercooler, turbos. Currently testing a new ECU. Recarro seats, DAS bar, shift lights. 3085 lbs. Not as light as Viperbobs, as it still has all wheel drive. It's still "almost stock".
"Almost stock" pretty funny Jim. Your car is bad a$$
I think the only thing these cars need for the track (assuming you're still going to drive it on the street) is better suspension, PSS9's or m030/HD Bilsteins, and a strut brace. Heel/Toe comes w/ practice just like faster lap times.
My grocery-getter is still WIP (another 2 weeks), but it has/will have, is the following:
Engine:
Full rebuild, expected output around 650hp at 1.2 Bar.
Chassis:
Complete roof change, remove stock sunroof and motor etc..
Lexan windows except front windscreen
FG and CF panels, wing, front spoiler (EVO)
6 point Heigo roll cage
OEM Strut brace
6 point harness Sabelt
GT3 OEM seats
Moton suspension 600/800 springs
Looking for adjustable Sway bars
Cargraphic Racing Gold center Wheels 10X18 (265 MPSC) and 12X18 (315 MPSC)
RS control arms etc
Will convert to 2WD Viperbob kit
Guards variable LSD
Rear seats and side panels out
Front light washer nozzles and motor removed
Rear wiper and motor removed
Fire extinguisher
and some other small items saving weight
The car will be a street car mainly so I kept the sound proofing material and stock doors, no uniball.

If memory serves, the GT3 seats saved about 33 lb each (66 lb), the muffler bypasses took 60 lbs off the rear end, and the Fikses saved a few lbs. However, the DAS bar added 50 lb back in, and the Cargraphic oil cooler added a few lbs to the left front end.
Overall, a good slight weight reduction, and redistribution from back to front. Nonetheless, the TT is still a heavy car, as brake pad usage at Road America will confirm.
I will have to weigh it once it is finished as I did not keep track of the changes. Over what Anir mentioned concerning the seats and muffler bypass, the 2WD should save me another 100 lbs and the sunroof delete+ Lexan around another 60 lbs.
My TT is just too heavy, and I'm not sure if I'd like to do all the modifications to make it lighter.
Some of them are quite easy to make, and easy to put back the original equipment. However, just as Anir said; It's a heavy car.
Even though fire suit and helmet, rollcage and real belts I think are very important also. Especially when chasing better tracktimes..
Perhaps I should get a 944 Turbo and do all the modifications...?
"Perhaps I should get a 944 Turbo and do all the modifications...?"

Although 944t are a bargin to buy, they require a lot of $ to keep them running at 400hp levels. I raced one for several years and I enjoyed the handling, but like the speed potential of the 993tt more.
