Default Need Place to Buy Helmet in Bay Area

Well, now that ViperBob has breathed ALL over my car, I am ready for my first driver's ed. I have signed up for Thunderhill in August.

I need to buy a helmet. I was referred to Helmet City, but apparently they only sell online, so you cannot go in for a test fitting. They told me to go to Bell Motorsports over in Oakland.

Is there any place on the Peninsula that has a good selection of helmets?

Thanks!

Hal:

I do not know of any car helmet source on the Peninsula but I have dealt with Bell in Oakland and they are good about assisting on fitment.

FWIW, I have almost always gone with a different helmet than I thought I was going to after doing a test fitment.

Other the Bell, you might try Wine Country up at Sears....

Regards

Hal, great that you are coming out! You should come to the June 26-27 track days at Laguna Seca. I am told that they have good instructors.

I got my helmut from Pyrotech/Bell Motorsports in Oakland. A little hard to find but got a decent price from looking around. John, Kim as well as some other rennlisters have gotten their helmuts there too. I have a M2Pro in case you need a recommendation. Works good.

Glad to see that you have the PSS9s now. I still need the hybrids and a new ECU...

You can also test fit a bike helmet at a bike shop and order the SA version of the same helmet. I'd suggest being a stand-up guy and ordering it from the bike shop.

FYI - Bell motorsports in Oakland often has cosmetic blems at substantial savings. They won't have everything in a Blem if you are stuck on a certain model, but if price is your thing it is worth checking out. It is hard to believe that goofy hole-in-the-wall is actually THE Bell motorsports. Definitely park your car where you can see it.
