Default Found TT, ... question on pricing.

Ive finally found a nice TT in silver .. thank you all for the great support.
Im working out last details on price and other stuff.
Car is 96, polar/black, pretty bare - has aluminum dials, not much else, 30k, 2 owner, all original paint, current owner since 99 is a wealthy man but not a pcar fanatic. Condition is very good, but a few stone chips, some scrapes under the nose, and the interior is clean, but a few small signs of wear. PCNA is paying for a new windshield as their was a little corrosion paint bubble at the windshield edge.
No track time. Clutch is about 50%. Car needs 30k service (30k service was done back in 2000 at 24k mi), and new front brake rotors.
Am I overpaying at $64k plus the above maintance?

Also, why was it so hard to find a TT in silver (ive seen so many in black, blue, red, arena, etc) ? Was silver not as popular back in 96/97 or are the silver owners just especially hard-core?

Rob,

Sounds like a fair price. I recently bought a '97 in Arctic Silver/Rubicon Gray, same miles (29.8K), aluminium dials, digital stereo, and overall similar condition (but no apparent clutch problem) for about $3k more. The car had had a major service done in 2002 so I didn't have to deal with that.

From what I've seen since, I think my price might have been a little below the market.

At any rate, you can't hope to do much better and you found the color you like. Get a thorough PPI and, if all checks out, join the club!

I agree sounds a few K below market, which means it's a good deal. Not a smoking deal, but still very good. Btw, you chose the best color, imho.

Does it have sport seats?

Rob stay with the price and get the guy to make it
right, ie pay for the 30K service rotors, etc etc.
the reason its so hard to find them is because
everyone in Nor Cal owns them!!!

Owner wants 64k NET to him, so isnt willing to pay for rotors/service.. feels it is worth more otherwise. Not sure how to make him pick this up... suggestions?

Jeff- no sport seats, but as the drivers seat has some wear, im really thinking of upgrading seats.
Either the cobra misanto seats, or OEM sports seats.
What are the stock leather seats worth if i sell them?

OldGuy -- You always give great advice, but since this seller did the 30K service in 2000 at 24K miles, he's not likely to thing that the car isn't "right."

Rob -- If you're stuck on sliver, you had better not fool around for too long because you've got a decent offer. I wouldn't hesitate (after PPI) unless you decide that you'd rather wait for a '97, which will also cost you a little more.

I can tell you first hand that silver is an AWESOME color for a 993TT, albeit Arctic does look a little better than Polar.

thanks guys
car had a solid ppi .. results were that "very solid and very stock car. Honest car for 30k use, shows some wear, but in good shape"

So, ill ask the owner once more to try to 'help' on the rotors, etc., but will find a happy ending. Yes, ive searched too long.

Careener, i have artic silver now on my c2. i love it, but funny, im warming up to polar as polar is a little more unique (every silver german car is basically artic), and the 'smoky' polar look is sorta cool. Either way, silver is a great 993 color.

Just curious, why do people here mention stories of 30k 96tt selling at 60k ? are these from the 'land of misfit toys'?

I bought mine about a year ago and prices seem to have firmed up a bit since then.

Polar is much rarer than arctic and I was once told that it used to cost quite a bit more (2k) than arctic.

Still, given that it has some minor cosmetic flaws and is lightly optioned, I would go by the guy's house with a cashiers cheque for 62k in hand and try to wrest it from him.

Good luck.

I believe Polar was the standard color in 96' and Artic was the standard in 97'.

As for 96's with 30k for $60k.......they are not a myth.

At some point you get tired of trying to get the BEST deal.
If you are happy and the PPI is good-- thats the main thing
I passed on a 96 Arena red with 9K miles for 65K
so I know they are out there. BTW if you want to do the
rotors and pads yourself thats a purty easy DIY. I have done
it myself and now I could do 4 sides of pads and rotors
in less than 2 hours. IF I take off the emergency brake
that will save you about a grand. Figure $500 in parts and
save about $1000 in labor.

Last year I paid $66k for a 96TT Blk/Blk with 26k miles, so I think this price is pretty much market. I just had ViperBob do my rotors/pads. The parts are getting pricey. I recall about $700 for parts and a couple of hundred labor.

I had a Polar silver 95 C2 and LOVED the color. It is on the rare side, but seems quite desirable. Sounds to me like you would be buying a nice car that needs a little maintance. Go for it! (after a proper PPI of course.) Mike W

Rob,
My thoughts are that at 64,000 plus rotors, pads and a clutch that is too much.
Polar silver is as desireable as artic it does not hurt you on resale in my opinion.

In regard to finding a silver one at a reasonable price, be patient you will find one. I believe the seller should sell the car in good running condition, let him do the service on the brakes and clutch. If not walk, I don't believe he has a line of people waiting at the door to give him 64 for this car.

Les I agree
He should sell the car in good condition and pay for the
thing to be in the shape its supposed to be in! Lets remember
here 64k is not a small amount of money! he should sell it in shape.
that is a good amount for a right 96TT.
