Default $52000 for 993 Turbo for sale.

Folks,

I found a 96 Polar Silver/red interior with 70000 miles for $52000. It had 2 owners so far. The current owner claim he only drove it for 10k miles for the last 3 years. The 60K servise was done right before he got it. It had new clutch and timing belt that replaced about 2000 miles ago. Tires about 50%. Paint and interior are in pretty good shape.

I would say the mileage is on the high side. And the red color leather is not for everyone but I am fine with the red. What is the right price? Would $50000 still too much?

CP......the 70000 miles on this car is the highest I ever seen. That's why the seller is willing to come down the prices. If he did not have the clutch and belt work done, I won't even consider it.

Now.......what do you think?

I am looking for like 40K miles or less for 60 thousand dollars car. But $50K kind of make me wonder and may worth a try if the leak down test turn out to be okay.

What % the leak down test of this 70000 miles should be?

Opass,

70k miles is high? That's about 10k per year, average for U.S. cars. I guess Porsche/Ferrari types expect 5k miles per year.

My RUF (95 993 C2) just turned 100k miles. Fortunately, the conversion was done only 25k miles ago.

Good luck with the PPI.

Opass,

I have 60,000+ on my 96TT and it runs like new. The value of the car you are looking at is all about condition. If it has been maintained and driven well, it is barely broken in. If it has been abused all of its life, its toast.

Have the shocks ever been changed? The originals are good for about 30k miles. A proper replacement is $2k to $3k, maybe more with the Euro flying. The PPI should catch the leaky steering rack, the leaky hydraulic clutch slave, and the corroded aux fan resistors, as well as any pending engine issues.

70,000 miles would not scare me off. A poor condition turbo with 30k miles is a lot scarrier.

Default update...

Went to see this car in person. Found out the front hood was repaint. Supension was replaced 3 yrs 10k miles ago.

Let me put all the facts in order:

96 polar silver/ dark red little purple interior.
71800 miles
2 owners
cosmetic and interior is in excellent condition
glossy paint finish, clean leather
New supension, Bilstein, installed 4 yrs 5000 miles ago
New Clutch $1600
New gasket $900
60K services done 4 yrs ago
upgrade muffler with gold tips
CD changer
DMV/Registeration fee just paid to 01/05

Tires is 40-50% worn
Front hood was repaint
Front bumper has a lot of stone chips, need repaint
Fog light lens are getting dull, aging.
shock of the engine lid are not holding.

$51750

What do you guys think?

Should I spend $10000 more for easily found lower milesage like 40000 miles on it? Any inputs are welcome?

OPass,

If the PPI comes out strong, I'd not hesitate to go for it. $10k buys you a lot of mods/driver's education.

You asked a few times what numbers are good for PPI. I think what you should do is get the test results, then posted them here. My hunch is people will tell you to get 1%-3% for every cylinder, but you would never know that in your target car until your tested it, so just test it and let experts like Steve comment.

I'm not scared of high mileage cars if they're mechanically sound.

Good luck.

$51750 is a great price. Why was the hood repainted but not the bumper cover? At that mileage, most forward facing parts will have stone chips. How are the records? Are they complete and do they show a consistent pattern of preventative maintenance?

I got mine for a little more than you. Sounds about the same condition as yours with the exception of the paintwork, 19" wheels, PSS9's, Alpine stereo, Fabspeed Maxflos, V1 and LWF and clutch. It also had 62K miles.

Car had been well cared for and runs great. As some have said, it's the condition of the car, not necessarily the miles or age.

Good luck.

opass,

when you state that the 60k inspection was done 4 yrs ago do you mean that no further inspection/service was done afterwards?
993s must be serviced at least once every 12 months and have their oil changed.

Autobahn is correct, and annual oil changes or every 7500 miles is what I'd be doing. However... I'd still take a serious look. That is a rock bottom price, and if the car checks out, its a good deal. You must, however, really love the color of the exterior/interior... you pretty much get to live with them forever. Does it knock your socks off? Then get that PPI and steal this sucker.

Or you can do what Kim did and dye the interior black. There's only a few thosand silver/blacks out there.

Well, you don't seem too keen on the red interior. Now take into accout that the car has 70K miles on it. If you can afford the extra $10k, I'd say keep looking and find a 40K mile one with the interior color you prefer. They are out there....

Viperbob.....I do like the color combination because this car has the same matching color of my Boxster S. Except the TT red is more darker and toward purple. The Boxster has special red interior. If I buy this TT, my garage will end up 2 same color cars.

Thanks for the board comments, I need some time to make a decision whether spend 15% more for 1/2 of the mileage or save 10K for other stuff.
