Post XM radio

Have any US or Canadian members here put XM radio in there 993 yet?

If so do you like the head unit/antenna mounting setup?

I probably am going to get it but curious if others have done it; and what they think. A 'search all forums' but it came up pretty dry.

Check the Mercedes forums. They seem to like it.

As someone who is interested in the company for practical (although I know it ain't coming to the UK) and also investment reasons would you post your findings?

I am sure there are many out there who are frustrated and fascinated country-fans living in New York.

Hi Pig4bill, How can I find the Mercedes forum? Could you give me a link or an address. TIA

Since my original post I now am leaning toward installing just the satellite radio receiving box and leaving in the CDR-210. I'll keep the original look of the dash and also have the added convience of a remote controller within easy reach.

The Mercedes forum I used to read occasionally is now gone! Maybe it was moved somewhere but I don't know where.

Neunelf check out the 928 board, a member over there has the XM radio in his Mercedes Benz and loves it. Putting one in his 928 is next when the engine mods are done.

Thumbs up

I had XM installed in my '95 993 coupe in December and love it.

I was a little surprised by the size of the antenna, but it looks good on the roof of my car. Actually the antenna is located under the rear deck between the speakers. So it's completely hidden. The shop has done this many times on other 911's.

The receiver is under the dash on the passenger side. It does stick out a bit, but it's barely noticable.

I have an Alpine CDA-7878 head unit and love it. I now have AM/FM (yuck), XM, MP3 and CD. Since the install I haven't listened to AM/FM at all. I live in the SF Bay area and I was really getting tired of the stations.

Along with the XM radio I had the shop upgrade everything for the stereo (amp, speakers, subwoofers and wire for detector). Other than the XM radio I'm also happy that my Valentine is now mounted above my mirror.

They did a great job and I couldn't be happier.

E. Malcolm Crosby ,

Can you give some detail on the audio upgrades you did?
What equipment?
Where did you put your subs?

Thanks much.

I had the following items installed.

- Diamond D4104 amp (mounted in front of gas tank)
- Alpine 177A Component speakers (rear speakers are disconnected)
- 2 * JL 8W3D4 Subs
- 2 * Car Audio Innovations sub enclosures
- Alpine XM TUA-T020XM receiver (mounted under dash on passenger side)
- Terk XM TRK-SR2 antenna (mounted under rear deck)
- Alpine CDA-7878 head unit

If you're not familiar with Car Audio Innovations you can get more information off their website @ http://www.caraudioinnovations.com. The shop that did the install was very impressed by the design and they sound great.

The speakers sit on the floor behind the seats. My only complaint is that I lost about 1" in seat travel. The loss doesn't affect me on the drivers side, but many have complained when in the passenger seat.
