No problem - we midwesterners* have to stick together as we are overflown by the coast dwellers

*Actually, I'm a transplanted New Yorker.

Thought I'd mention Pelican Parts is $10 cheaper for the same product than Performance Parts...a little profiteering!

Marco
Are you comparing the same product? Both sell a nylon insert socket @ $20. Performance also sells an aluminum insert socket @ $30.

From the school of hard knocks (25 years of 911 ownership):

Plastic lined sockets crack over time

Aluminum ones round over time

Forget them both; go to Sears and get a 19mm 6-point deep socket, 1/2" drive. lLsts forever and doesn't really damage your lug nuts (anyway, they're buried deep in your wheels where you can't see 'em).

Griot's makes one that is soft on the out side so you don't accidentally bang your wheels up. Check their web site at www.griots.com
Or here http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?&SKU=77100

My soft socket crumbled the first time I used it. The nylon apparently could not withstand 100 ft lbs. Worst money I ever spent IMHO.

Get the aluminum insert. The nylon will also melt at track conditions.

Thanks, all!

Dan, I think they are the same at Pelican and Performance. Same picture and description, just significantly different price.

Martin, deal. Please e-mail me privately and I'll send you a cheque.

Probably academic, but Pelican describes theirs as nylon, but has same pic as the one Perf. descibes as aluminum. Perf. has the other descibed as nylon, but pic of different socket. I think Perf. just has their pics mixed up.
