Been there. Evaporater is behind the gas tank. Everything has to come out of the frunk to access it.

Use my A/C a lot so I would also have to bite the bullet if it broke.

I had this same experience a dozen years ago. Everything has to come out; it is a huge amount of labor to replace the evaporator.

This past winter I got a new Griffiths evaporator, expansion valve, drier, etc! Bring on the summer heat!

Did the evap replacement in the daily driver, a 2004 BMW 325.
The whole dash must come out. A lot of connections there and a few under the hood. Not too technical, but took a lot of time!
I am thinking the gas tank in my 993 might be easier! (Really not wanting to find out, though!)

Coincidentally my daily is also an '04 325i at 212,000 miles. Unbelievably reliable! What baffles me is the AC still blows ice cubes and I've done a nothing to it - ever.

My 993 AC has a leak and I'm pretty sure it's the evaporator. At the labor and cost involved I'm just refilling 134a each summer, way cheaper. i'm going to have to address it eventually.

Car is back and AC is cold.....Got a $ 700 discount so feeling fortunate........only thing is they emptied a full tank of gas and left it pretty empty.....

Thought I was going to avoid this as it blew cool for 21 years....but got caught and basically rebuilt the whole system..........evaporator, all AC line o-rings, drier, expansion valve and even the cabin pollen filter....

2 year warranty.....good to go......

Every time I bring my 993 when I don't feel like working on the car it costs me either $1000 or $2000

$1,300 to do an evaporator and all other work is great!!

Go enjoy the car now and run that A-C with the top down
