i have a copy of the letter sent to dealers oct 18 the stating that porsche is going to do a voluntary service campaign to inspect and replace if needed the wiring harnes of affected vehicles.

10,300 u.s and 455 canadian non turbos and 779 u.s. and 65 canadian turbos.

you will be notified if your car is one of the affected vehicles.

letters are going out now, if dont get one, call dealer and ask about dealer noitfication W301

good job putting the pressure on porsche.

now lets see if you can get them to do something about the carbon air valve problems on the newer 993's.

CONGRATULATIONS! This is great news for early 993 owners. Though the carbon issue has not hit my '97 car yet - 59,000 and going strong - I'll be watching this issue closley.

How does one go about notifying Porsche of an ownership change? I sent the postcard that is in the warranty or service manual and it came back undelivered.

What years were covered in this recall?

I know that the early 993's had a wiring loom problem in the engine compartment, but that newer models (1996+) were updated with a different loom.

From the number of vehicles that were listed in your 1st post, it seems like almost all vehicles were recalled (10,000+). I wasn't aware that that many 993's were ever built.

Were the 964's covered in this as well?

I've got some contact names at Porsche Cars Great Britain.

I wrote a letter to Phil Hatton (PR Officer) and Steve Walker (Technical Manager) when my loom failed and had to be replaced.

Like a typical Brit I never sent the letter but writing it made me feel better.
I've put the experience behind me now but I wouldn't mind the £1K it cost me back!

This is GREAT news for all us 95 owners who are just waiting for this thing to fail or have been postponing the expense of preventative maintenance.

Thank you very much for the work, and for sharing the information. This ought to be satisfying - I printed the information and pictures on the failed wiring harnesses from E.J.'s site and took it to the Porsche Service Manager. When I changed out my alternator, the wires were brittle and falling apart. This was before the wiring harness issue was brought to light on Rennlist. I taped up the main red wire going to the alternator with electrical tape so it wasn't exposed. The Service Manager has been great to work with in the past, but on this occasion he brushed me off. It will be interesting to see if he remembers...

The biggest problem I see is finding a dealer that wont screw up the car while they work on it.

I have never had a loom problem w/ my 993, but as soon as my dealer messes with it... You know how that goes.

Let me tell you this one last thing though.

I dont want to hear this anymore:

"Oh, the '95's all need this wire loom fixed - blah blah." Now that it can be fixed for free, that babble can stop. Making the model year 1995 the deal of the century and KING of all 993's!
