Question Windstop / Boot Cover Compatibility

Six months ago I purchased a 1998 C2 Cabriolet and absolutely love it.

The car did not have a windstop or boot cover.

I sourced and installed the windstop, with help from this site.

I have a feeling the boot cover I got is for an earlier MY.

When the boot cover is installed, is it necessary to unzip the windstop so the leading flap can be secured in front of the rear seats?

Somehow this doesn't seem right and if I tuck this leading flap under the boot cover then wind can still get to the headliner.

Can someone with a windstop and 993 boot cover please comment?

Thanks for your help.

As I am sure you are aware, the owners manual describes the use of the Boot Cover with the windstop installed.
I agree that just tucking the leading edge under the Boot Cover seems a bit "un-secured" but I have have followed this method for the past year and have had no issues with the head liner.

That's a novel idea. For some reason it never occurred to me. Can you actually secure the leading boot cover flap somehow if you unzip the windstop? Won't the rear flap of the windstop then just flap around?

When all else fails look in the Owners Manual ....D-OH!

Thanks Dave!

Although I'm not 100% thrilled with this solution it does appear that I can keep my recently aquired boot cover.

Yes, the Zippered end of the windstop just hangs down in front of the rear seats. I'm pretty sure this would reduce the winstops effectiveness though.

I'll have to do some at speed testing this weekend :-)

Anyone care to be a 993 Cab Mentor?

Best wishes

With the windstop in possition, I simply tuck the front part of the boot underneath. Leave the windstop zipped. The boot cover does not flap around even at 90+ mph.

Howard,

I have had more than my fair share of "D-OH!" moments.

150? I don't think I've even been over 130. Jos, you can't mean that you've exceeded 150 with the top down (maybe a test drive with the new roll bar? With my gearing 156 would be max in any case. I can't wait untill next year when I can get back to Thunderhill and see which car is faster.

Slightly OT, but I stopped using my boot cover when I noticed it was marring the paint. It was puting light surface scratches into the paint where it comes in contact above the trunk lid. I don't know if this is a common problem or not.

I had the marks polished out by a detailer, and haven't used the boot cover since.

I think your comments are definately on topic, thanks
This is something I will keep an eye on.

Now the question is which is worse, damaging your headliner or your paint?!

Howdy,

Good point. I have been trying to come up with a way to keep my headliner from flapping in the breeze when the top is down.

I thought maybe I could run a dowel from side to side through the headliner, and secure it with a bungee at both ends. Any ideas?

The dowel / bungee sounds like it could work.

I will have to look at this option next time I put the top down.

Before getting the boot cover I considered trying those black office type "monster clips" to keep the leading edge of the headliner in place.

There did'nt seen to be a good place to clip on to and I did'nt want to do more damage than I was trying to prevent.
