Default Porsche CR-3 radio in 993

Hi,

I have a RoW 993 from Japan which came with a Porsche CR-3 radio.
See picture.

I never heard of a CR-3 radio and can't find any info on the Internet about this model.
Probably Japanese market only?

Does anyone have more info about this model? Maybe a manual?

Thanks!

Your photo doesn't appear in your message. But you should call Becker Autosound in NJ and ask if a Porsche CR3 radio is a Becker OEM model sold in Japan: http://beckerautosound.com/ If you are very lucky, it might be the same cassette radio equipped in North American Porsche 993s as the CR-210.

Very cool; did it come with an owners manual? I'm assuming the radio only plays karaoke 🎤

Suggestion; post your option code sticker. That might help.

Funny thing about RoW Japanese cars : they don't come with an option sticker for some reason...

Default CAN Bus ....?

Porsche model year dependent, the Porsche CR-3 radio could require a CAN bus signal to actually operate. .. I forget the acronym for Porsche's Central Area Network scheme, however. .. The CR-3 radio pictured thoroughly resembles the like kind ...Mercedes Benz aesthetic of '03, '04, etc.

Agreed, give the NJ located Becker Auto Sound a jingle... Alternatively, there website depicts model radios by manufacturer/years if I recall.... Have a go .....

You are not alone, our RoW (south american) also didn't bring the options sticker in the car nor in the owner's manual.

Here's a guy on Reddit who has one: https://www.reddit.com/r/Porsche/com...che_cr3_radio/
Interesting to go to the Yahoo Japan link he posted and translate the page. I think it says one sold on auction for 510 Yen. =$4.52??

Default Similar radio found

Thanks for all the help/suggestions!
I wrote to the Becker guys but they didn't respond yet.

On their website I found the same radio player but for Mercedes cars (1994-1998 SL/C Class). See picture.

The Mercedes model is CM 2194 (or 2294 or 2396).

Still looking for a (technical) manual!

The problem with the Porsche CR-3 radio is that it only operates in the 76–90MHz FM band, so I want to figure out if I can change this. From wikipedia:

Many Japanese radios are capable of receiving both the Japanese FM band and the CCIR FM band, so that the same model can be sold within Japan or exported. The radio may cover 76 to 108 MHz, the frequency coverage may be selectable by the user, or during assembly the radio may be set to operate on one band by means of a specially placed diode or other internal component.

Would be great if I can change the frequency coverage!

Sorry to revive this older thread - but was there actually an outcome?
I am in the similar situation and would like to know if something can be done to extend frequency bands...
