Post Improving looks: Lowered 993's...

not only handle better, but really looks a lot better. The ones sold in the States, in particular, are originally much too high, to meet some bureaucratic bumper impact spec. A lowered car looks more muscular, and the empty space in the wheel arches is filled up. The first thing I did was to lower my car.

993RS,

What did you do to lower your car?

I agree RS993 (and probably all here) I love the look, but does anyone think that the M030 lowers the car to much for practicality?

One respected installer told me it is to impracticable for everyday road use.

p.s. I have the front aero kit I front splitters which would only add to the bottoming out issue.

I installed a Bilstein sport suspension and set it up to RS specs. I had the M030 before that, and it sure did not bottom out and was just fine for every day usage in my case.

Actually, the ROW M030 kit lowers the car between 3/4" and 1" depending on the model. This is a fairly reasonable drop for a US 993 which otherwise has the ground clearance of an SUV.

There is nothing impractical about it other than the fact that you have to watch the front bumper as you enter a driveway. My car is about 1" lower than stock and have had no problems with it.

You must mean the bottom of the bumper touching the ground. Bottoming-out is when the suspension is in full compression.

Thanks 993RS and Viken,
I had all but ordered the M030 when I was swayed by the advise a Porsche technician not to do so. Its funny how you can research so many people saying it's the way to go and then when one person tells you 'you don't want to do that' you stop in your tracks and wonder what heck does he know that others don't.
It didn't seem right that the M030 would be to low but I figured it was better to find out for sure now rather than later.
'Bottom out' was the wrong phrase to use -- I am sure not reaching my suspensions compression limits. 'Nose crunching' would have been more appropriate.
In preperation I had installed Gert's nose protection bar long ago.
M030 here I come.
Thanks again.

More important than the protection bar is to be aware of the fact that your nose is lower. You will have to approach some driveways or speed bumps sideways. Once you get the hang of it, it is a piece of cake...

Brad said - I had all but ordered the M030 when I was swayed by the advise a Porsche technician not to do so.

Maurice suggests - If you go for the PSS9 kit you can more or less choose the ride height that your terrain is least punishing at - adjustable front and rear!

Thumbs down

Dropped my US '95 993 to Euro M030 specs. For a street car, I would NOT go any lower. Have scraped the nose a few times.

Cool

Hey guys!

Here is a side shot:

Ride height = 24.75 in all four corners - from up the center line of the wheel - to the wheel well arch/lip.

I do not have any driveway problems or clearance issues - ever.

Its "real low," I damn near "fall" into it when I take it for a drive.

Kim;

Man, I am guessing, but I would assume so.

I just wanted to let you & the others know that even a 993 this low has not caused any trouble for me w/ daily drivability.

Its pretty sweet. I would like to know the "simple" measurements (like I referenced) on other setups though.

The lowered look with 18" rims is definitely awesome. Would like to get people's thoughts/recommendations on how the following setups are for long daily commuting. I've got a 65 mile daily commute that consists of highway, good streets and poorly patched streets.

Std US height and 17" rims vs.:

a) Lowered and 17" rims
b) Lowered and 18" rims

Thank you, in advance.

Talking

RS<

couldn't agree more, standard US car just looks really bad.

Mine has M030, but is still at standard height, but that's gotta change soon.

[quote]Ray - Do you have the RoW M030 suspension? If so, can you post a side shot of your car sometime?
My car is also set up to Euro M030 spec. but it seems high to me, although I haven't done a side by side comparison to a USA spec'ed car.

Car on front straight at Nelson's Ledges. Euro M030 springs with US M030 shocks/bars. I installed the springs/shocks/bars myself, walked into a dealer with the alignment/height sheet out of the shop manual and told them to set it up this way. To me I wouldn't want it any lower if I had to drive it on the street.
