Question Are the new graemlins really gremlins?

Those cute little buggers are a lot of fun.

However I've noticed something that may not be related to them, but began happening about the same time they were activated.

I've noticed some threads will seem to "hang up" as they are downloading and stall the download. (other threads are no problem)

After repeated tries, I usually can finally get the problem thread to open.

When it does open, the balky thread is often loaded with these little dears.

Anyone else notice the same thing, or am I drawing the wrong conclusion?

BTW, I'm on a Mac G3 Powerbook with a 56K modem (I know, I know, decidedly low-tech -- I try to put my money into cars, not computers)

Usually there are a lot of them in the thread.

I've had this happen with half a dozen threads in the last few weeks.

Maybe it's my imagination... or maybe (Oh my God) I've got graemlophobia

Hey Mike,

I've noticed this too--in particular, the "Latest Cayenne News" thread/satire started by 993RS about a week ago. It was loaded with lots of amusing/animated graemlins. I have two versions of Netscape on my home computer. Netscape 6.x seems to handle the graemlins better, 4.7x seems to hang up more often.

I don't believe it's a bandwidth/processor issue, as I have cable internet service and 866 MHz P3 processor, 128 MB RAM, etc.

I do wonder if the stalling is being exacerbated by "non-rennlist" graemlins that are imported from other sites by some members (myself included!).

Netscrape is your problem. You're missing half the fun not using IE.

Weve finally figured it out...

Viken is really Bill Gates.

I agree, the use of Netscape may be the source of the problem. I have never experienced any of the loading/hanging problems using IE.

Got a very good laugh out of grungyspeed's Bill Gates comment , but agree that Netscape may be the problem. Well, Netscape 4.7x, that is. Played around a bit this morning with Netscape 4.7x, 6.x and IE (yes, I have that on my computer, as well). Only 4.7x had the hanging up problem. I've actually had problems before with 4.7x and animated webpages, so this isn't terribly surprising. 6.x seems to be better equipped for "high-content" webpages.

Mike, what browser are you using?

Randall, bet and all,

You're right. I got netscape. (netscrape to Viken)

This board is truly amazing. At work I have IE, and I don't recall having the problem there. (All the more reason to just do rennlist all day -- a horrible example for the department, but only the IT guys know for sure.)

Grungy

Very funny.

But I never figured Viken to be Bill "The emperor of evil" Gates. Viken's too good a guy. However I have thought that Viken was an Enron board member. How else could he afford his 4S and that Italian car?

thanks all

Mike

Hey Mike,

If you want to continue battling the Evil Emperor--while being able to load graemlins efficiently--download Netscape 6.2 .

... that other half missed by using non Microsoft software is where the hackers & viruses live

Yeah it must be my old version of netscape (4 point something).

This thread has started to hang up now.

I'll download the new one.

Thank goodness we don't have these problems with p-car version 99.3 -- I've read that version 99.6 was launched with a number of bugs.
