Another Engine Mount Question

Another Engine Mount Question
Is a 993 C2S with 135k miles a "no question about it candidate" for engine mount replacement, absence of the typical symptoms (visual and otherwise). Car is 99% sorted however never felt need to replace the mounts. However last season on rare occasion shifter would pop out of 1st into the neutral position; is this a potential sign. I'm set on the RS mounts just want to know if it's time to make the change.

Well, the most torque would be transmitted in 1st gear; but you did not mention if the mm have been replaced previously...So the "no question" portion of your question, is definitely questionable.
Have you put a floor jack under the engine to see if the tail pipes move closer to the bumper cover cut-outs, as you apply pressure with the jack?

This was the tell-tale sign for me. When jacking at the engine, my exhaust moved up about an inch. That's exaggerated by the orientation of the exhaust and tips, but it's an easy way to tell if your mounts are sagging.

Three Wheelin'
I have to say, if changing engine mounts to something different, be selective. I installed EVO Black mounts some years ago. A few months ago I was finding black tar like goo on the garage floor under the back of my car. A close inspection showed that the urethane bushings melted. Very strange as urethane is a thermoplastic material. Once heated and molded, it should not melt. Evo stepped up and sent me free replacement bushings. The bushings are easy to replace.
Good Luck!!!!

I will be installing RS mounts (replacing the OE units with 96K miles) in my car this afternoon. I'll let you know my impressions if you are interested.

Burning Brakes
My low mileage '96 (40k miles) needed new mounts last year. "Performance" mounts may be more "solid" in construction and transmit more vibration/resonance into cabin. Some like it and others don't...

I appreciate all the suggestions and tips. In a few weeks I will test the mounts as recommended. SpeedyS2, yes please let me know how it goes. Pictures too if possible.

You're due for mounts. RS or Wevo sharpen up the shifter and throttle feel slightly but you get a little more NVH in the cabin. I liked this but others may not. Just a matter of personal preference.

Rennline also makes a very fine, adjustable, and competitively priced set of 993 MM.

I'm due too. DS muffler tip rises about an inch when jacking up. PS rises a bit less.
If any of you guys are going to the Hershey, PA swap meet in April https://www.pca.org/event/2015-01-21...eet-hershey-pa , Rennline and some other vendors are usually there offering discounts.
I'll definitely be stopping by their booth.

I installed the RS mounts in my '95 C2 with 97K miles yesterday afternoon. Really a straightforward job, with nothing overly technical. One nut on the bottom and two bolts up top.
I had replaced my suspension several weeks ago with the Bilstein B6/RoW M030 spring combination. I also replaced the front and rear top mounts. I love the look and ride quality, but the handling was frankly spooky in turns. I had confidence in the shop which did the alignment so after some research decided the motor mounts might be the issue.
I will say the difference is pretty startling! The handling is now easily as good as my Cayman S (which is a good thing!) and the car feels extremely "planted" in every situation I've thrown at it so far. Shifter feel is a bit better, too, which is a nice side effect. To me, the increase in NVH is very minimal.
FWIW, a friend who also owns a '95 C2 with the Bilstein/HR setup and C4 motor mounts says he likes the ride/handling of my car better than his. I'll take it...

So, for the RS mounts, do you need to buy the $100 in bolts and washers or is something re-usable from stock?
