Post Rust bubbles around glass seals?

My 95 C4, which I bought last spring, has always had a small paint bubble right at the bottom of the rear glass seal; the dealer sez it can be repaired under Porsche's 10-year rust warranty. Yesterday, I noticed a similar bubble at the top of the front windshield seal. How common is this on the 993? Anybody else have this problem?

My car is a one-owner car which has not been painted aside from the driver's door. Color is guards red, btw.

This is a known problem on early MY95 cars and Porsche issued a service bulletin to repair the rust. Basically, water and dirt collected in the window channel under the rubber seal, usually in the bottom corner. The fix is to repair the rust, fill the channel with silicon and install a new rubber seal. The new rubber seal was installed as of 7/94 vehicle production.

I can e-mail you a PDF of the bulletin if you like.

Rich, that would be great; my email is vjd3@yahoo.com

My car has a 10/94 build date, though ... maybe I'm just unlucky. I hate to do any paint work on it, I can tell you that. But I guess red is an easy color to match.

I have the same exact problem Vic - but the front window is in both lower corners. I hope with my high mileage I will still be able to have the dealer fix it.

Rich, could you please also email me the pdf of the bulletin so I can have it handy when I go to the dealer.

Thanx,

E. J.

Rich,

I'm also interested in this Porsche bulletin. Can you send me a private email?

Appreciate it much.

Hi Rich,

Can you let me have a copy of the bulletin as there is what looks suspiciously like a rust "spider line" at the bottem of my front screen.

Thanks,

David

I recently had this warranty work done to my early model 95'. During the replacement of my front windshield, the dealer found rust on both lower corners of the windshield. They had to grind out the rust and repaint the front "cowl" (between the windshield and the hood). It was covered under warranty - 10 yrs. unlimited mileage (I have 130K).

My March '96 build coupe had a rust bubble hidden under the rear window seal, passenger side, about 1/3 of the way up, at purchase time. The PPI caught it, which I was impressed with.

Repair was covered under warranty: remove rear window, grind down & refill the rust area, respray the C pillar & entire roof (as opposed to trying to blend Iris Blue metallic).

I just saw a 96 TT with pretty big rust bubbles under the drivers side windshield. I never knew it was a problem until I saw this post.

I always dry the inside of my door jams, engine compartment, trunk and look for any place that water can rest...now I will be on the lookout!

Would these paint rust bubbles also manifest on the rear-quarter window?

It seems I have little bumps on the lower black moulding, on the horizontal part, just aft of the door jamb.

Wait a minute...this is strange. I opened up the pdf for the Service Bulletin (btw, thanks vic!) and I can't seem to print the 1st page.
Pages 2-4 printed fine...anyone else have this happen? Can someone send me page 1? Thanks!

Edward
