Just drove a supercharged 993!
LINK
Earlier this morning I went to BAR Tuning who is Houston's premier Audi tuner and APR affiliate. Was talking with Mike Staley about my p-car. He told me that he installed TPCs kit on his friend's 993.
Low and behold he shows up 2 minutes later. After blabbering on about how much I'd like to install one on my car he offers a ride. Then he one ups that. He throws me the key. I was floored.
Then...I floored his car. Man that car is a rocket. It doesn't have the thrust of a turbo motor since power is made from zero to hero. But when you look at the speedo in triple digits you KNOW this car is crazy fast!
What a way to start the week!!!!
Oh. Did I mention I want that kit? laters...

Kim,
My impression was that the guy who owns the car is the one that pulled up in it & offered the drive....
Having had a very massaged turbo & my current SoK car, nothing beats a supercharger!

JW in Texas, How much was the SoK kit installed? Are you totally happy with it? How does it stack up against the TPC unit in performance?
I am also considering the TPC kit for my 1997 c4s. Was told 1) I will burn a clutch or so; 2) we can easily intercool the TPC setup as well.

TPC is working on an intercooler setup. Not sure how far off it is. TPC also recommends a clutch upgrade with their kit.
Mike told me it took him 2 solid days to install but it was his first SC kit.

TPC is a bolt on (ie no change to compression ratio or internal at all), low boost kit.
The SoK kit cost mucho more $$$$$$$, but has intercoolers, different pistons etc, which is why it also makes MUCH more HP than the TPC kit.

John & I have participated in several discussions on this subject. Here's one of the more recent ones:

Mine has a BIG intercooler & is running @ 7 PSI with 9.0:1 compression. The engine has been tracked extensively & has been bulletproof. I think conservative boost levels, compression & lots of intercooling are mandatory for hard use.
Plenty of superlatives have been thrown out already on other threads about the performance. Suffice to say, it will get out of it's own way
(450 crank HP, 375 to the ground + 3000 Lbs = BIG fun)

Phillip, If you are looking for a SOK kit for your 97 you are out of luck, they do not have one for my 96 C4S either. The management system is holding them up. SOK was suppose to have a stand alone system for these cars but it never came through, (still trying I hope), you will have to go with a TPC kit. Have had some friends put this kit on their cars in particular a 97 C4S and the owner says that he did not need to look for a new car for awhile now. He loves it. I'd like to get more power out of the kit to get similiar numbers to the SOK, and i'm wondering about tt heads, pistons, and custom cams to go with more boost from the TPC??!!

Just spoke to TPC; intercooler (40Hp at the RW) will be out in Spring;$3,500
Also; company just upgraded entire kit to include a smaller pulley and new software (i believe he said +20 RWH).
