Wheels identification
Hello,
Could someone help ID these wheels? They came with my '84 911 as extras, and the previous owner bought them 2nd-hand, so don't know if they are repros or originals. [17-in 'Turbo Twist' wheels marked 'CUP 3'??]
*I want to make sure I accurately label them when they go up for sale---i.e. as OEM or as REPRO wheels.
Thanks
Keith

These look like 996 or Boxter wheels? If that's what they are they are a dime a dozen. Look on e-bay to get an idea on price.
I think the factory wheels have some sort of Porsche number like 996.xxx.xxx.xx
Are the fronts like this?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/PORSCHE-ALLO...JXYyRH&vxp=mtr
Or this rear one:

The ones you have look like Italian reproduction but still very good quality, the OEM ones had the Porsche number on them.

That round stamping with the 96 in the center looks like a possible date code. If you look at the dots around the 96 you could have 12 dots but this stamping only has 9 dots in those 12 sections.
I recall sometime in the past seeing this explained as a date coding technique, in this case it would mean 1996 and 9 dots indicate 9th month. So Sep 1996? Not sure if that makes sense? These wheels had been also on some 993 cars so I guess it's possible?
I can't recall the source that explained that round stamping but I recall it being a date stamp method.
