Collectibility of automatic transmission or convertible 993
Hi all
Per my research 993 automatic transmission or Convertible cars are sold relatively less than the manual or Coupes hence this question:
Is it correct to assume that the automatic transmission or convertible (non-coupe) 993 car will be less collector value?
Thanks

Depends on the buyer or collector. Coupes are more desirable for someone that wants a coupe. Same applies to the convertible - more attractive to those that prefer top-less. Like me....
Are there more buyers for coupes? Apparently. But if the right convertible meets the right buyer the convertible will go for a premium. Tiptronics that is a whole different ballgame.

Depends on the buyer...but most will agree 3 pedals > 2. WB vs NON WB will have some influence in the Coupe but Manual will always command a higher premium.

Not yet. But my theory is that in 10-15 years when those kids who had 993 posters on their wall are in their peak earning years, they will want Tips.....because they never learned to drive a manual. Then a Tip will bring more money than a manual.
.....but I'm not holding my breath.
The safest bet is to buy what you like. Don't worry about future value or collectability.

Historically manual transmission sports cars command a premium on models where an automatic type transmissions is also offered. On most cars the price goes up for cabs, rarely does this happen in the Porsche world with the exception of very limited production models like the Speedster, Roadster, etc.

Thank you all for your input. My intention of this post is to understand difference in price and collectability of 993 based on what you have seen in the market not necessarily what I would personally like to have. All my Porsches have been stick shift with the exception Cayenne and 928 models.
I did a limited online research of Porsche 911 for sale in USA, I included all Porsche 911 variants up to 997.1 models. My conclusion is that:
- Overall, Automatic transmission cars are cheaper for all years, however the price difference is much higher in older models. For example, price difference of 993 (Triptonic vs Stick) cars are much significant compared to 996.
- In the case of 993, for the most part convertibles are cheaper. The cars that are have both Conv Top and Triptonic are the cheapest
However, it is hard to compare the cars since they have varying mileages, conditions, color and options hence not confident about my own research results. The data set is not big enough to compare cars with equal characteristics. This s why I thought I’ll ask you for your observations.

Acknowledging that ASKING price can be a whole lot different than SELL price...
I just received my new issue of Panorama. I like to look through the classifieds to see how 993 prices are trending.
Here's some examples by year of just NB C2 coupes and cabs:
1995
Coupe-32k miles, 6sp, $49,500
Coupe-77k miles, 6sp, $51,800
Cab-81k miles, 6sp, $49,000
Cab-90k miles, 6sp, $59,000
1997
Coupe- 41k miles, Tip, $52,500
Cab-60k miles, 6sp, $59,500
1998 (no '98 NB coupes of course)
Cab-33k miles, Tip, $69,500

Nobody can tell the future!
Look at 964's, no one wanted them and their prices outstrip 993 and they are actually selling. Maybe Tips will be worth more than they are now, but more than a manual? Nope.
If you like a Tip and can get a goood discount, then do it! I loved my 964 Targa, and it was grooosssly undervalued for a decade.
