Default Bad New Engine Mount? Paging All Gurus...

I just received two "new" engine mounts from Sunset...
Was there foul play with the left one? Would oil leaking out of it have caused such corrosion? Moisture?
It is dry to the touch...
The main body is obviously new, but the corrosion and the threads are suspicious...

I wouldn't question it, just return for another.

I received the mount in Hong kong... I live in Europe!
Just trying to avoid going down that painfully complicated path...

I just emailed the photos to Sunset. I thought they were supposed to be "new."
We'll see what they say...

I don't profess to be much of a "Guru", but that is not acceptable by any means. Sucks that you will need it replaced. I'd force Sunset to send a replacement ASAP, along with a return label for the defective part. Don't let them tell you to send in the bad one, before they'll ship a good one to you. Good luck.

+1. No way I'd want that mount.

It is used or at least installed previously as the chromate finish is missing from the top part of the threads. Get a replacement.

+1. .. I'd return the mount. ..

I too bought new mounts a few weeks ago; Sunset shipped 2 new OEM hydraulic C2S 993 motor mounts .... after an expected,, good two week wait when ordering.
Keeping with a precise OEM (hydraulic ver.) part replacement for the aging C2S is expensive $.
2 mounts, new hardware for each was approximately $590. + all toll.

OEM part numbers - 965.375.050.00 and 965.375.049.00

I too am no guru, but a simple visual inspection by almost any monkey should have rejected that part as unfit to be shipped to a customer.

Perhaps it corroded in transit? The zinc chromate or alodine coating should have prevented this; but as Andy pointed out, the coating looks to be bare in the business portion of the thread area; giving the impression that this was a used part.

Send it back with a quick note of dissatisfaction and ask that it be promptly replaced.

The discoloration in the finish on the metal body of the mount suggest the part has been through many heat cycles. Add the thread issue and its safe to assume it's not new. Hard to understand how this part found its way into inventory.
Definitely request replacement part and return of the used part on their dime.

Corrdo,
The "discoloration" you speak of, is typical of a zinc chromate or alodine coating finish.

It's been used. Look at the threads at the top of the mount. Return and request a new one from Sunset at their expense. The powder is corrosion from bare metal and setting on the shelve for a period of time. GLWT.

the other option is tell Sunset they sold you a used piece of crap and request a big discount on your next purchase to make it good. If not, slap them upside the head on this forum about sell old junk parts as new. I believe they will respond positively!
