Has anyone had this problem w/ their 993? I have tinkered w/ the ashtray to make it close (left it at the detailer this afternoon and they opened it but could not close it) but have not had any luck.

i find that when i close it very casually it seems to work. whenever i try extra hard to close it i have trouble.

I agree with Rohan. It seems weird to me too, but if I try to "gently" or "carefully" close the ashtray, it won't stay shut. I just give it a quick jab/poke/push and immediately take my hand off it, and it catches every time.

Check any wires in the way behind the ash tray. When I upgraded my stereo, I didn't pull the new wires back far enough, and couldn't close the ashtray and the air conditioning dampener wouldn't open all the way. The detailer could have snagged them a little when vacuuming or shampooing the carpet.
