Default Quickjack and my 993

Quick background.... Originally purchased the Quickjack 5000SLX to work with my 2004 VW Passat 4Mo. But with Votex sideskirts, the lifting points are recessed about 2 inches deeper than the sideskirts and at set points , plus there are just at the limit of the lifting trays for the Quickjack. The quickjack moves in an arc when lifting, which meant it won't work for me.

Pelican has a video of it lifting a 911:

About a month ago got the 933 and figured it should work on that. Nope.

Physically the unit fits between the wheels (barely, maybe one inch or two clearance), however the unit moves in an arc and that is where the prob is. If I try to move the unit front to back so it clears the front tire, the rear lifting point is no longer aligned.

In the first pic shows arrows where the lift hits the tire and the tube blocking me from moving the rubber block in the designated tray to keep the lifting point aligned.

Second pic, I reversed the lift to try to see if that would work. Arrow shows where it will hit the tire.

So that left me with one other option, a perpendicular lift as described in the Quickjack instructions. It worked!

Now I need to do all the maintenance I had planned.

PM'd another Rennlister and he spoke with Quickjack and apparently the 3500SXL will also need to be used perpendicular on the 993.

Looks like a nice light weight option. Accessing the oil tank drain plug may be an issue though.

Thanks for sharing! I was debating buying a quickjack but I'm leanining toward spending a little more and buying a maxjax.

Do you get the same interference if you stack the rubber blocks like they did in the video? Can you you remove all of the under trays using a quickjack?

I was hoping the Quickjack would work better for me. I liked the non permanent , "movable" aspect of it , better than the Maxjax. Might end up getting rid of it and using the lifting method so often mentioned here. I need to get those stands though. I think the "frame" of the jack would hit whether or not I would have stacked the blocks.

Currently under the car for tranny fluid change so I snapped a couple of pics.

that thing looks a little sketchy. what about a mid rise scissor? you can still move it very easily.

I have a maxjax, and it's a great little lift. Works for all our cars, and gets you clearance to do any job. I did my clutch job last year and the Maxjax is what made me able to do the job. The only pain is when you put up and break down, but it's such a simple process and is easy to move. Definitely recommend.

I couldn't find this lift useful. Any time car is up, I traverse the underside, looking at anything, that may need addressing. Can't really do that with these perpendicular to length of car.

Default jackstands

Are there no concerns just having hydraulics holding 3,000 lbs. over one's body, w/o jack stands?

no, why should there be? (assuming it has mechanical locks)

Quickjacks, midrise scissor lifts or MaxJax, they all have mechanical locks so you're not resting on hydraulics.
