Hi everyone, I'm thinking about buying an Iris Blue 993 posted for sale at the Beverly Hills Car Club in LA.

The good:
Clean title
Coupe, manual
2 wheel drive
Nice exterior color (interior is light grey)
Relatively low miles at 76K
Suspension mods (Bilstein HDs and H&R springs)

The bad:

I have looked at the car personally and I feel it's in the below average category due to several issues like:
peeling clear coat on RF fender, sunroof
Paint is fading on several areas of the car
2 inch gash on the front bumper
missing weatherstrip in the rear window,
Missing grille dam
Torn CV joints' Rubber boots
Loose padding on both front seats
Engine is leaking (it could be valve covers)
The car's history shows that RMS seal was replaced a few years back

Anyone in the forum familiar with the history on this car? Car fax shows no accidents, clear title and no gaps in reported mileage. Your input is much appreciated!

It's subtle but the difference in the gaps between front quarter panels and bumper suggest this car has taken a hit on the front driver's side.

I'm not positive, but I have never seen clear coat peeling on a 993. Does it show signs of body work?

Normally I would say Yes but they are asking $45k for this car. That seems high for a car in the condition you describe. What's your budget? Can you afford to pay $45k plus whatever repairs will cost?

Personally, I'm not sure this would be a $60k car once everything is up to snuff. I'd pass.

And that picture seems to show the driver headlight is clearer than the passenger one, possibly supporting your thesis.

Thank you all for your observations. I agre that it looks like there have been repairs given the gaps between quarter panels and the bumper. Any offers I make are contingent upon satisfactory PPI and would reflect the cost of repairs needed. The car is not worth anywhere near $45k in its current condition.

I have budgeted enough money to bring the car up to snuff. My goal is to build a weekend/Occasional track car. My focus would be upgrading suspension and removing weight wherever possible (carpet and sound deadening would go first).

What price range would you estimate for the car given the observations already made about its current state?

I'd just be careful. They do not have the best reputation in the overall classic car world. I'm sure some stuff may be reasonable but the majority is rough, very rough...

Lol! That picture showing the rust bucket going for $3950!is hilarious! I believe that has been on their website for quite a long time. No brave takers yet!

Thank you for the words of caution. I'm still in the due diligence stage of the negotiations and any problems found will be factored in any offer I make. I was wondering if anyone here had seen this car before? It looks like its last owner was located in Annapolis Maryland

based on the supplied information, I would pass and move on.

While most of the issues you cited are cosmetic, I have found that generally, that is an indication of the care and maintenance the car has experienced. As such, I would suspect that the motor and drive train have similarly been neglected and you will probably have to put a lot of money and effort into the car to bring it up to suitable running condition.

for $45k I would expect a much better sample.

Get a PPI and offer em $35k if it comes back ok, and predicated upon the notes here...Would you buy the car at $40k if the motor was sound and the leaks were only the vc gaskets?

Hello everyone, I got more info that didn't show up on the car fax but it comes from a reliable source intimately familiar with the car's history. The car has been involved in an accident that entailed airbag deployment. The cost for repairs were about $16k and performed by a reputable shop but there is a still question as to the structural integrity of the car.

I will pass on buying this car and continue my search. Thank you all for your input!
