Default outside door handle removal

I need to take off my drivers outside door handle. Any one know the trick to getting the rear nut off? Even my small hands I cannot get a wrench or socket on it!!

Help.

Just pull the handle until the hinge is exposed then lift it up and out of the socket.

It may help access to remove the plastic protective cover over the locking system (#19 in diagram), comes off with 2 screws on the outside of the door jamb. Even so it was a tight fit; I had to use a mini rachet driver that has a lower profile. My regular 1/4" driver was too thick to fit with the socket in place. I also tried the open and box end of my wrench but that was painfully slow. You might need a shot of pb blaster if there is any corrosion on the nut / stud.

That nut would absolutely not come off on my passenger door and I ended up dremeling the nut & stud right off, and had to replace the door handle. Hope you have better luck with this than I did.

I've used a box end wrench. It's slow, but you'll get there.

Just did this last weekend to thoroughly lube a sticking outside trigger. On my car this seems necessary about once a year.

Although I do not have small hands, removing #19 improves access considerably. A shot of PB Blaster never hurts. Still, patience is required. I used a 1/4" ratchet, short straight extension and a swivel extension.

I replaced the gaskets behind both door handles today. It went much easier than I thought it would. I removed item #19 and used a small 5/16 box end wrench (which is 8mm). Most of the work is by feel, including removal and re-installation of item #19, but as everyone says, patience is the main ingredient for this project. I appreciate all the hints on this thread, which made me better prepared for the task.

While door panels etc were removed, I installed my new ABS door pocket reinforcements using black ABS cement.

All in all a productive day looking after these somewhat minor projects.
