Question A modest proposal

In an effort to prolong the joy of 993 ownership, I am thinking of trading my one owner, high mileage(96K),95 P car for a newer, low mileage example. Perhaps one of the Rennlisters has such a car and is looking for a track car or a daily driver rather than the garage queen that I would like to find. Obviously, I will ante up $ to cover the difference in the cars's value. My car has never seen smoke or track and has no mods. All problems have been addressed. Though a modest proposal, I am seriously considering this move. You thoughts...thanks.

Hi Tom,

Your car sounds like an excellent example of a good, well-cared-for, orig owner 993. Am I missing something? Should you be successful in your trade, you'd be gaining lower milage along with many, many other untold variables, as well as parting company with some cash that could easily be used to modify yours to a level that might make you more satisfied. Again, perhaps I'm missing something here, but I don't think it's a move in the right direction, IMHO

Tom, a part of me agrees with Edward. You have a sorted, bullet proof 993, that should last for many more miles. Not much to gain from a lower mileage car. after all, they are all 993s. Plus, with the added out of pocket cast, you can of course buy Mods, or simply apply to pending maintenance.

Now, if you want to part with your Dino, I may have a 993TT to part with. I have always loved the look of the Dino, so stealth and sporting!

Good luck and keep us posted on your decision...

BTW, what color is your car. I have a few friends in the market for 993s.

Unless you are wanting to trade from a coupe to a cab or targa or wide body or turbo, I would agree with the consensus so far and keep yours. Why deal with the unknown? I had a 4runner with 165K miles but I felt more confident taking it on long trips to the mountains instead of my 50K miles Navigator. Why? Because I bought the Navigator used with 34K miles and have had the 4runner since new.

Definitely agree with everyone so far. Unless you have a real compelling reason to switch (moving to an S, 4wd, different color, etc..), then why do this?

My 105k mile 993 is rock solid and treats me very well. I track it and drive it as often as possible, and I've never had any mechanical failure driving EVER!! I would never trade my beauty, that has taken such good care of me, for something else - positively no reason to.

If I wanted an S or 4wd or a different color, well that would be a justifiable reason...

You must be unhappy with something on your car... Color? Body style?

Like the others here, I don't understand why the change?

Tom

I sold my 97 993TT [68000 miles] and bought an IDENTICAL 97 993TT [34000 miles]
I have not looked back

However, the first car was a problem child [even when in was low miles]
So there is a lot to be said about a well sorted 993....

Excellent observations and thoughts. Thanks for the input. Sometimes a little distance from the issue gives a much clearer perspective. I think the cash difference can provide a lot of
maintenance and upgrades.
Thanks,,,I feel better now. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />
