Post Yet one More thing to check for the track...

Hi all!

Track junkies, your list of things to prep just got longer!

<img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/IM000888b.jpg" alt=" - " />

Just thought I'd share this picture of my melted taillight assembly. Apparently, the one screw that holds it in place CAN vibrate out. The assembly ended up dangling over my left exhaust tip until a cornerworker blackflagged me into the pits. Funny thing is (if you can call an unexpected $117.00 expenditure "funny"), I'm pretty methodical about maintenance, track or otherwise, and I never thought that I'd have to check THIS screw. Oh well, this wasn't the first time I've been shown I had a screw loose.
On the upside, I bettered my previous laptime at Buttonwillow!
Peace all! <img border="0" alt="[bigbye]" title="" src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" />

Seems a certain doctor teammate had a similar experience at a certain Wisconsin track.

Do we add this to window creaks, wiring harnesses, etc?

Edward,

At my last DE I came off the track to find my left taillight barely hanging on. I now check each taillight before each session and try to look at it once a week in the garage.

On a related note, I also found my locking lug nut key still on one of the rear wheels after a session <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> Can't believe it stayed on there the whole session.

Guess that's an indication of how 'fast' I really am

I like to think it stayed on because I'm so smooth <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

OK, so I guess I'm not the only one. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

Kim,

Yeah, I was thinking "Loctite" as well, but I'm wondering how well it will hold given the nature of that type of screw/clip (i.e. hardly any surface area for the loctite to "bite"). Still, it's worth a try

Ben,

Actually, it's because you're fast AND smooth....what ELSE could it be!

Edward,

As Greg and Mike suggested, the same thing happened to me at Road America over Memorial Day!!! It's the last thing I expected to be told after getting black flagged. I've decided to leave it in place a sort of a "battle scar".

I guess we were going so fast that we "blew" the taillights off! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Yeah, I like that one MUCH better than "it just fell off..." Thanks, Anir!

Interesting, I just went down to my garage and the screws are tight. I just checked because I recently did two track events.

This is kinda wierd. I was looking at a fellow PCAers 993 before the last autox. I noticed his tailight assy was loose. The screw was there, but very loose.

I will go down stairs and check mine. Never thought that I would have to add this to my race-prep list...
